Interior/Exterior DIY Fiberglass Splitter With Pics
DIY Fiberglass Splitter With Pics
I started my splitter last Friday. I set up 3 layers of glass with tinted resin and let it sit over the weekend. Went back to it today and started sanding and cutting. I'm using the template provided by MC2 for the shape. I should have it done and bolted on the car tomorrow. Here's some pics so far...

It looks great! I had a blast building my ABS "lip" because I didn't want a large splitter like you have, due to clearance issues at my work's garage, plus I didn't want to use stand-offs. I used the basic pattern you did, (thanks again to MC2), with just a slight modification. I really like the looks of that design. Your's should look awesome and I eagerly await the photos!

Wow that looks sick, I like how you can see the pattern in the fiberglass mat. Hard to do?
I have a good idea (to me at least lol) for a rear diffuser if you're comfortable with glassing, could be something we could work on since you're pretty close.

Let me know your rear diffuser ideas. I was thinking about doing something with that too.

If enough people want one I might consider making more. PM me if you're intersted.
splitter looks great.
Question on the metal rod mountings - The rods are design to hold it in place but based on the angle used, I don't see how they actually provide support. It appears they would pivot ?
Perhaps its the picture.

As for a rear diffuser, on the factory S rear bumper, using the 05-06 Cooper rear valence, it shouldn't be too hard to make something like the R56 Challenge car rear diffuser, only smaller so it looks clean(er). It could even maybe be incorporated into the battery box cover depending on the exhaust you have (how low it hangs).

What's the cost associated with this, not including the stand-offs? I'd be interested if it didn't use the stand-offs for mounting.
