Back home!

I am back home from an amazing trip where I drove this:

for 2,100 miles through the back roads and off roads of Utah, Nevada and a bit of California to see stuff like this:

That looks alot like the four corners trip David and I did 5 years or so ago. Did you happen to go to Mesa Verde?

No - didn't get to that one. We did Bryce, Zion, Arches, Canyonlands and Death Valley.

Way cool! Thanks for sharing. Just took the wifey to your site to see your other photos. (She paints fine art and has even more appreciation than I do.)

Looks like you had fun. I backpacked for a week at Arches. Amazing place.

Nice pics, if only the laws of physics would have allowed the mini to take the trip.

One of my favorite spots is Bryce Canyon up route 30 to Salt Lake, you by any chance didn't see Gene, or Hoppy out on the trail did ya? Great photos!

We get so caught up in our daily lives that we forget how beautiful this country is from coast to coast. I'm from Connecticut originally and love the sea, but I fell in love with the West and its fantastic weather (great for my asthma) 30 years ago and am still amazed with its beauty.
Great pics!

Thanks guys for the kind words on the pics! I'll have more to share by next week, I shot > 18GB of images so it is going to take some time to catalog them all.

Lisa and I will be going back to the SW for a couple of weeks around Thanksgiving for more of the same!

Coming from the MINI it took me a few minutes to get used to the Hummer. When we got home I tried to step *way* up to get back into the MINI and had a good laugh.

No way to see the off roads, canyons and mountains from the MINI - there were some pretty serious off road experiences and I was really glad for the high clearance and 4WD.

I had done the advanced Land Rover school prior to the trip and that worked out really well. I certainly put much of the skillset I acquired there into some of this trip!

What an incredible trip!

In 2006, we drove from Texas to Colorado to Las Vegas to Northern California to Southern California, and then through the Southwest back to Texas. I regret driving too quickly (not speed, but timewise) , and in the dead of night, into Mesa Verde and the next day through Zion National Park.

This summer we'll have a makeup trip through Colorado. I'm looking forward to it.

Great pictures!

Hey Trace - isn't the SW just the best place in the world?

Thanks Quesera - and I *love* that drive through Zion!

Here is another pic of Bryce (boy it was cold - 15 degrees!!!)

We did the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Prescott, (pronounced like Biscuit) Jerome, run a few years ago. This fall we're going to do the Alberquerque, Santa Fe, deal. When the time gets closer, I'll post for advice...

I'd love to live in the SW, but the wifey won't go for it. If anything happens to her, I'm going to live in a trailer, drive my pickup and shoot rattlers...oh, and go back to drinking whiskey! ;-)

We're going to Alberquerque and Santa Fe next month. I'll be scouting the area for a potential place to reside once my son gets out of school and leaves home (six more looooooong years to go).

I went to Bryce a few years back on a cross country tour. I though it was better than the Grand Canyon personally. I did go in August though, so it was a bit warmer out... :-)

Chris-
These are just breath taking. Perhaps I will make down to your studio to purchase a few of your portraits. I have a few perfect places for them.
Thank you for sharing.
