So I went to the car-wash today...

So... what I do is detail my car once a month (claybar etc etc) and go through touch-free washes every week or so

And this is just my ritual, and that is to use them self-wash soapy brushes to soap up the rims. (touch-free can't remove all the grimes)

So I was waiting in line to go through the touch-free, and I see this woman with a brand spanking new clubman go to the self-wash spot I just used to wash my wheels. Then she proceeds to use the brush I just used and start using it to clean the entire car

at least rinse it before using it you know? I felt so bad

You should feel bad. Why didn't you rinse the brush out after you finished with it if you knew it was that dirty?

Seems like the right/nice thing to do.

It would have been nice but I didn't expect her, who was watching me wash the wheels with THAT brush,
simply use it on her entire car without rinsing it first.

I rinse the brush thoroughly before use.
I feel bad for the Clubman she drove, but not for her.
I'm not her babysitter and she should know better.

I usually stay away from the brush. On more than one occasion I have seen it used to clean a dirty bay floor. Not really into using something on my wheels that someone used as a soapy push broom. I guess rinsing it may remove all the crud from the floor, but who knows.

Yeah, well, why is she even using a brush on the paint??? The MINI "neighborly" thing to do is tell her that's she's destroying her paint that way.

I'm not a big fan of any kind of car wash, touchless or otherwise.

She probably is an enthusiastic owner hoping to keep her MINI shiney and clean! The sad thing I find is that the standards for (and knowledge of) car washing in general are so abysmally low....it's downright pathetic. Most of my friends think I'm a complete psycho, but of course I know otherwise. This new owner could have done a little "car care" research and done much, much better, even at a coin-op facility.

And the dealerships don't do anything to change that--everytime I see a post about a "dealer applied clear coat" or "lifetime waxes" etc....it makes me cringe.

If people could only see what their paint looks like after using a brush--they can look at any of my writeups and see how it WILL look in time--they probably wouldn't continue to abuse their paint.

I had a potential customer bring in a black Expedition. He wanted to know if the paint could be saved or if it had to be repainted. I clayed and polished a test section and brought back the gloss and depth of the paint. You could see yourself in it instead of haze, but the paint was cracked..thousands of cracks! Point being that neglect or abuse (whether intentional or by ignorance) can lead to some very expensive damage down the road and could be prevented with just a little bit of knowledge.

Except people who know how to properly do a car wash, I hate anyone
washing my car with a passion.

Dealers, car wash lots, wherever... filthy towers and so on...
millions of cars being abused and it's sad.
