R56 Question about the A/C and vents
Question about the A/C and vents
On my '08 MCSa I use my a/c all the time here in Florida but is there a way to not have any air flowing to the defroster vent on the dash all the time? I have turned the vent control switch all the way from Sunday but air always blows from there.
Thanks.
Thanks.
^^I did try that already but I will try it again tomorrow.I do have the manual a/c and not the auto a/c like you have in your sig picture if that makes any difference.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Jim may be referring to the large air outlet in front of the Speedometer.
I think that this is different than the defroster outlets at lower edge of windshield and puts out a larger volume of air than you would want through the 'wemacs' on the dash.
My 'auto' Air came with the sunroof package, but I am would think that the 'manual' Air would have the same 'plumbing' and air ducting, just controlled differently.
Also a South Florida (West Coaster) and very favorably impressed with the cooling power of my MINI Cooper's 'climate control'

Today when I was going over the owners manual and adjusting the air flow the one above the speedo continues to blow out air no matter what set at unless on full defrost mode.I do prefer just the dash vents to work only for faster cooling.Oh well.

That vent is for the rear seats
If you shut it off no air would blow to the back of the car. Sounds like you want to be able to shut it off so all your cooling is up front but I don't think there is any way to do that.
One consideration--I don't know if this would happen by closing the defrost vent, but at max blower you may find one or more of the vents will snap close. This isn't a problem if you have them all open, so it's not an all day problem, but I have it happen all the time when I first hit the full on button.
Of course, when I went to the dealer, I got the SA mantra: Oooom I've never heard of this before...oooom...our mechanics can't reproduce it....oooom...

A related question... the base a/c control has a rotary dial to route the flow of air in-between locations, allowing very fine tuning of the balance. The auto a/c appears to only have three buttons for airflow destinations.
Is there any way to adjust the balance (i.e., for bi-level) with the auto a/c, or are you at the whim of what the computer thinks is best? That is, if it starts 50/50, can you change it to 80/20% between two destinations?

If I understand what you're asking, you could try closing off one vent or another until you get what you want, keeping in mind that on full blower all have to be open at once (as I mentioned above).
While we're on the subject of adjustment--have any of you found a difference in strength required to move the left blower speed wheel vs. the right temp wheel? I had the left one replaced last year, and it's tightening back up again. When I was in a few months ago they said "it's normal."
