1200 mile oil change

Did any of you have a 1200 mile or less oil change service? Just curious.

I changed it at my expense. There are a lot of us on NAM that think if you are going to keep the MINI change the oil. First change at 1200 then every 5k miles. Don't re-set the maintenance that way you will get the free one in about 12k to 18k miles.

I was just wondering...As my friend with an Audi got a free one after 1200 miles. I fully plan on getting it done sooner rather than later.

I am planning to change my oil at around 2K. However, I live very far from my dealer. Anyone know a place online where I can order the MINI oil filter? Also, if I can't get MINI brand oil what should I use?

I changed mine at around 1500 miles. Did it myself.

There is much debate about oils for the MINI. My preference is to stay with the tighter spec given in the UK manual. That is the European ACEA A3/B3. There are very few 5W-30 oils in the USA that meet that spec, but there are some 0W-40 that do. If you are too far from the MINI dealer to get MINI branded oil, and want to stay with 5W-30, I believe that the BMW branded oil is the same stuff.

Most of the major brands, and some smaller brands, have one or two A3 oils in 0W-40 or 5W-40. Just check that ACEA A3 is on the back of the bottle. You might want scan the various DIY oil thread for other oils that meet A3.

OEM oil filters seem to retail between $9 and $15 depending on where you get them. I believe Moss MINI has them for $11. There have been reports of getting them from dealers for $10. I originally bought a kit with two filters and a 27mm socket. Probably paid too much.

My same intervals exactly.. I also used the BMW branded oil as a BMW dealer is 5 miles away, the closest Mini dealer 90 miles away.
