Hard reverse

Here we go another issue. So on occasion after starting my car I go to put it in reverse and the stick goes back just not all the way. It will even stick back but no gear. It will take a few tries to actually get it into gear. It might just be me but I feel its doing it more often as the days progress. Anyone have any advice/tips/knowledge they can provide?

Same here. I have to try it, put it in neutral pump the clutch and try it again..

Almost as if the gears / syncros arnt lined up. I was told to. For some reason after my short shifter I dont knotice it as much.. Dont know why, but I have the same issue..

What year / model do you have?

check the clutch fluid level. or possibly slave cylinder if pumping does not help. was having the same prob in my other car after the trans swap, and it was the clutch not quite fully disengaging.

also i have had good luck with lucas fully synthetic oil stabilizer in manual trannies, but have not checked into wether or not this is a good idea on the mini trans. take about half the fluid out and replace with lucas.

What I do, although I have the 6-speed Getrag, is shift from first to second then into reverse. This lines up the syncros I take it, it goes in easy after that. Sometimes it still does not go into reverse, in that case I let off the clutch ever so slight, enough to get the inside of the transmission turning, while pushing the lever into reverse. It goes in then I push the clutch back down.

I had the same problem with my Saturn. I asked my mechanic about it and he asked me what I do after I start my car. Never really thought about it, but my old habit was to start it put it in neutral get settled then leave. It seems modern transmissions don't like this. So now I make sure that my car goes into 1st before reverse.

Hope this works for you as well.

this makes sense.. it is my habit to always go 2nd, 1st or 2nd reverse. do not have any probs, but if i do try to go straight to reverse, it is hard to get in gear.

try this: engage the clutch, put it into first, let the clutch out barely enough to nudge it forward, engage the clutch, and it should slip into R with ease. My Toyota PU does the same thing, as do most manual trannys.

I used to have a hard time getting into R, till I was shown to go ("downward") to third, then over and down into Reverse (I have a 5 speed). Since I got the Whalen ****, it's not as difficult.

Difficulty with shifter after intall of new clutch and flywheel.

I just had my second flywheel replaced because of glazing. The '06 JCW S is still under warrantee, so the dealer has to also replace the clutch at the same time.

Since I got the car back last week, it is difficult to shift into Reverse, First and Second.

Any thoughts?

The problem could be a couple dif. things . The clutch might need to be bled.
Are there any noises you never noticed before?
