R56 "Dude it's a chick car" Part II, the unscientific survey.
"Dude it's a chick car" Part II, the unscientific survey.
Since reading the original post a few weeks ago, I felt compelled to conduct my own survey of Mini drivers in the Charlotte, NC metro area. I spend 2 hours (112 miles RT) daily commuting to my office and I travel a considerable amount in North and South Carolina. I spend way too much time on the road.
Anyway, I had a pre-conceived notion that the Mini was a manly man's car and all the banter about Mini's being a "chick car" was crap.
Wrong.
Over the past two weeks I've tallied the following:
52 total Mini sightings.
37 female drivers.
One or two may have been the same vehicle although I tried to prevent duplication.
Dude... it IS a chick car.
Thankfully, I stopped worrying about BS like this around age 40. I could care less. But the results are interesting nonetheless.

I only notice 1 thing....
when I had my audi a3, it was the guys that asked me about the car
now that I have my mini, it is the ladies that ask me about the car
now.... which group do you think I'd prefer would come to me and ask me about my car?

Yeah, it seems like mostly women drive MINIs, but that's only a good thing for us male MINI drivers - I mean, what's the chance of a cute girl in a MINI waving to a guy in a Charger
.
.
here is my thought. it can be a girl car or a boy car, its ALL about your color choice, and most colors lean toward female. im a GUY and thats why i drive a dark silver/black MCS with a cold air intake for added sound. stealthy, classy and manly.
when it comes down to it, being a man has nothing to with the car you drive, its the beautiful woman sitting next to you in the passengers seat.

i don't agree. there are "certain" colors that lean heavily toward making the car look more masculine or feminine.
It's a chic magnet car lmao...That's what I tell my friends.I get alot of winks and girls chasing me on the highway, coming up to me in parking lots, I'm not bragging dont think that, but I'd rather have girls come up then guys haha.
I haven't seen my car though since March 27th because the clutch went out at 2400, It's still at the dealer. My lawyer is trying to work a deal out.I don't abuse my car, to be honest I baby it . It has only seen rain once and never snow. My clutch is another story though. I'll gladly post the story in the Problems issues area. Sorry forgetting off topic. I had to vent.

I haven't done an actual count, but in Los Angeles, where MINIs are all over the place, the gender distribution is pretty much even. I do get more waves back from the dudes, however.
Color choice is the principle factor in determining this issue.
While my electric blue is bright and vibrant, I tried to testoster-ize it, by picking a black roof and stripes, for a hint of evil.
I don't really care about others' opinions, when driving it is just so much damn fun. If they don't want to know, forget 'em! THEIR LOSS!

I went to school right outside Charlotte (wingate University) for a while, and I would say it was about even between men and women. Like said before Most MC drivers are women (other than me), and the other way around.
Have we actually/finally defined what "chick car" means yet? Is it a car that ATTRACTS chicks, or a car that mostly chicks DRIVE?
Maybe it's just geography & demographics, but I'd disagree about the BMW thing - at least in my (VA) area...most of the folks I see driving BMW (to include the husband) are male.
I haven't been as accurate as Krieg, but in checking out the Minis/drivers in my area, I'd say that seven out of eight Mini drivers I've seen/tallied are men. I'm still new-ish to the club, but the local Mini club was all men! I was the only chick in the driver's seat that night. (If ya'll are reading: Great cars, too, guys!) Maybe it's the fact that the Mini is an awesome toy (not even delving into the world of modding and racing!), yet so very practical so...boys with toys, and yet versatile and practical for girl stuff, AND family too... it appeals to both sexes.
Jonnieoh -- the hint of evil doesn't really divide the male/female thing...I LOVE playing evil! But if it makes you feel better, you GO boy!

Best "car moment" I have ever had was at the gas pump on the way back from a "Blue Man Group" show. Its kinda late at night and I pull up to the gas station and at the pump next to me is a 2005 Ram 2500 Cummins with a good 8 inch lift and like 40 inch tires. It had bullydog stickers on it (guessing he had put quite a bit into it, had stacks coming out the bed of the truck, I love those btw) and the thing just embodied what is typically known as "a man's truck." There were 3 guys, one getting ready to pump the gas and the other two were in the truck.
Now I have pretty dark tint on my windows and what they didn't know (couldn't see) is that I had my friend Julie in the car. (Julie is very, very pretty, she is also very, very cool). I got out of the car, went inside to pay for 35 dollars on my pump and as I come out I see that the other two guys have gotten out of the truck and they are kinda pointing and snickering at the MINI. I get to the car, start pumping my gas and I hear muffled voices and then the snickering gets louder. I turn around to just be like "wtf" when one of the guys asks, "So is that your car, or your boyfriend's?" Right as he said that, literally, Julie steps out of the car and says she is going inside to buy a drink. The snickering immediately stops. What made this even better is that I just stood there looking at them as Julie walks back out (they all are checking her out) she is holding a box of condoms. She walks up to me, puts it against my chest, walks back around to her door and steps in. I smile at the guys, give them a wink, and drive off while they are still pumping their 40 gallon tank.
Then I paid Julie back for the condoms....

In my opinion it's not the color. The reason being is there are only two real factors in the color that pose a debate on whether the car is more "girlish" or more "manly". These factors are first overall body color of the car. if it's a white, or silver car with a normal top then I guess it could be view as femmy, but if the top is painted black it's a pimps car, No matter what. Now I said "I guess it could be view as femmy" the reason I say that is it's all in the attitude you drive. No offense ladies, but some of the girls that drive the car don't know it's true power. If any women view this post I'm sure you actually know how to drive cause your on this site. I think the one factor that could pose more of a say in the car being femmy is the convertible... it's just to cute, but it can still rock the road, so it's all good. The mini cooper is a car that gets underestimated and abused, but we all know that it's an amazing car.
