Question about Driving Lamps

Can the driving lamps be removed if factory installed? I didnt know if they drill and mount them into place. I'd like to be able to just unclip them if i didnt want them on.

also, can i choose to have the back of the driving lamps in black instead of chrome, and where can i order the driving lamp covers? the ones that say mini on them.

question off topic.... can i choose to have the top grill outline in black instead of chrome? or am i going to have to modify that myself once i get it.

thanks!!!

The lamps will probably be installed by your dealer. I would imagine you can ask at that point to get black or chrome. Taking them off will be more involved than just unclipping.

thanks for the links, oxy. those really help. I probably will end up changing the front grille along with the outline.

the driving lamp covers you linked say for 02-06, do those work for the 08s too?

thanks again

No, the factory covers for the R56 driving lights are larger than the earlier model years.

Interesting. I didn't know the VDC did the install. At what point in ordering did you ask for black ones? They don't give you a choice on the online configurator.

I "think" chrome is the default unless you ask for black.

I don't think the driving lights install was always done at the VDC. I know our dealer installed the driving lamps in both of our '06 MINIs.

(Besides, the VDC would have known better than to wire them so that they'll come on with the high-beams OR the low-beams.)

I didn't ask at all. I didn't even know they came in more than one color. I went to pick it up, and that's the color that was installed. I have a black roof and black bonnet stripes, so maybe they just automatically put in the black to match?

I was told by my MA that the lights were installed "at port," so I'm assuming that's the VDC.

I believe the part number for the R56 black covers is: 63120432836

I'm not sure if this is for a pair or for one... verify with the parts clerk.

That's the right number. It's for 1 cover.

My lights were VDC installed. One of the MA at my dealer called and asked if I wanted the chrome or black lights. I chose the chrome. They come with white covers. The chrome lights with black covers look great since they match the chrome trim on the front of the car and the black grill. I did not get the exterior chrome package.
