It's $100, IMO worth the peace of mind of not regretting it down the road, especially since there is no retrofit available at this time. It really is just for looks for most people, since they don't like the empty toggle switch or the bumper.

I too live in an area with little to no chance of ever using them, but decided when I ordered my MCS that for $100.00 it made the rear bumper area look better and I also did not want a blank area where the switch would have been. There are others I have seen on this site that wished they would have ordered them too. I'd say spend the $100.00 now and not wish you would have after you recieve your Mini.

Yes - get the rear fog.... You may think you won't use it...but it's great to have just in case. I posted in other threads this same thing - it's great to flip on when someone is tailgating you - in crappy weather it's great to have on too - not just when it's foggy...

We are small cars ... it's better to improve our chances even without fog - just at night - that the driver behind us is well aware that we are there.

Heck it's only $100 so on the loan that's like nothing per month.

Oh - and depending on your choice of finish you may well wish to get clear signal lights instead of yellow. Also only $100 and a super big pain to do later.

Get it!

It's only a hundred bucks, right? Even if you don't use it in the fog, it makes a great attention getter for tailgaters

I live in Chicago and have used my rear fogs on a good number of occasions:
- When it's particularly rainy and I feel as though visibility is decreased, I turn on all my lights, front and rear fogs
- When someone is in the left lane going really slow, when i get in front of them, I flicker my rear fog hoping they get the point that there's a line of cars behind them.

Also as others have said, fill the dull space AND the toggle switch.

I think you will regret not getting the rear's. They look good filling up the empty space and I think you will find you use them more then you think. If you pass on them now I see a mod for them in your future

Get them. I totally regret not getting them, if only to make the back grill less of a void.

I'm thinking of just getting the red lenses to pop in there, even without the lights, because it's bugging me just a bit.

Plus it fills all the toggle switch slots.

Pros:
Cosmetic benefits: They complete a bank of toggle switches and fill out the rear.
Practical benefits: You can politely alert people behind you that you feel they are tailgating. Drivers who aren't doing it maliciously will usually back off. They increase visibility in the rain and fog.

Cons:
$100

Go for it, especially if you're looking at a lower visibility paint color.

Uhmmm I use them all the time in Chicago... I like just as another way for people to see my car!!!

For the extra $100 I didn't have to look at the place where they SHOULD be... or an empty toggle switch location...

Agreed - for $100 it's a no-brainer, even if you doubt you'll ever use them. I probably never will, but without them it looks odd.

Get them for sure!

I use mine every day (slightly upgraded bulb).

Every little bit helps keep people off your bumper.

The brake modulator - biggest change in traffic pattern so far.

Rear fogs

I think the rear fog is more useful than the front. In poor visibility or if you are stopped and want to be sure to be seen, the rear fog is a handy additional light.

The issue is how much is $100 worth to you. I asked the question when I bought my car and received similar comments. To me, filling out the toggle switches is worth about $10 and if it were $20 maybe I'd have done it. But $100 is a lot of money. You could buy or put it towards: floor mats, a steering wheel cover, stripes, mud flaps, clear bra, repair manual, etc. Unless the $100 is inconsequential I'd save it for something else.

Alternative option

I ordered my '08 MCS without the rear fogs and initially regretted my decision when I realized the dealer couldn't retrofit them. Then I read about the retrofit kit from Minspeed that allows the rear lights to be installed as extra tail lights and brake lights for about $75.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=130720

IMO, this kit is a better option than the factory fog lights, beacuse they really get the attention of other drivers when you apply the brakes. The one downside is that you'll have to spend about an hour of your time installing them. Now that I have this kit installed, I'm glad I didn't get the factory fogs, because the extra brake lights are a more useful safety feature IMO.

Wow. Looks like I'm the only one who thinks this is one of the few wastes of money you can get. Only $100. The side scuttles are only $166. Fog lamps on front are only $510. A glove box organizer is only... you get the picture. This has got to be the only car in existence you can buy and more than double the price of with factory options. Dont get me wrong, the customization is what these cars are all about but a rear foglight? Total waste. Unless you have a Hella or like, that is mounted high and aimable (not a word) I dont see the point. I have above said on my Land Rover and have used it about 4 times in the 9 years I have owned the car, and they were all off road. Rear fog that low on the street? Totally pointless. Take the $100 and spend it on gas. With prices as they are lately, your ROI will be about 1000x times higher!

I got the rear fog but only use it during low visibility. I refrain from using it when not needed as it is annoying to driver behind a car when it is not needed. On a separate note I wish they only had one rear fog light on the left, this is where a rear fog belongs in fact I believe some states don't allow it unless it is one light on the left.
