Where to buy european parts?

I am looking for a place to purchase specific european MINI parts. Specifically, I am looking to get the OEM aspherical mirrors.

Does anyone know, or have a contact, of where I might be able to go to find these.

I have tried sending Mikey a couple of emails but never heard back which means his is really busy right now. I know from dealing with him in the past that he has a small shop and when it gets really busy he runs out of time.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, I have seen the multivex mirrors and they work slightly different and I do not like them.

by aspherical, do you mean convex?

Those European mirrors can be obtained from Classic MINI with a NAM discounted price (if you ask for it) of around $58 each (for Heated Mirror) as of the date of this post. If you do not want the US "Objects are closer than they appear" etched statement in the passenger side, order two left's and rotate one 180 degrees. If you have heated mirrors you might have to extend or re-route the heater wires because they will have to reach the other end of the mirror now.

Classic MINI is great - Ask for Jayson, he can help you.

If all else fails, call Marcus in the service department at Peter Nick BMW / Mini (the staff is heavy with English speaking staff). Marcus is a Mini order and regular at the Nurburgring. If you really, really want a Euro part and can't find it, call and order it direct. The dollar is weak, and their sales tax is high, but if you have to have a part.....

I organized a group buy for this part about a year ago from a Pittsburg dealership, but I think I've heard that they can't get 'em anymore.

If you can find the part numbers, I've ordered Euro-spec parts from www.pelicanparts.com (although it my case, it wasn't the mirrors, it was the wheel arches that don't have the reflector cutouts.)

www.realoem.com can be a good source for part numbers.

On the 1st generation MINI ('06 and earlier), if you don't have heated mirrors you can just order the passenger side mirror and install it on the 'wrong' side. It will have the "Objects are closer..." text on it, but because the mirror is symmetrical, you don't have to install it upside-down.

Here's a thread on my local board from when I did the group buy... lots of photos and links: http://www.metroplexmini.org/forum/s...uropean+mirror

Already tried Classic without success. Told they are unable to get European parts.

A trip to Europe would be nice but probably not going again for a couple of years.

The convex mirrors are an idea but not the same as aspherical. These type of mirror are only convex in the last third of the range towards the outside. Seems odd but you get the best of both worlds.

I have the part numbers but Pelican Parts didn't get a hit when I put it in. Maybe i'll see if I can contact them.

What's the exact part number you're looking for? I found an online vendor that appears to have all of the different Euro versions of the mirrors (flat, curved (heated) and curved (non-heated).

I know the mirrors you're talking about, though. My Ducati has them from the factory - flat on the inner two-thirds, but the last third is convex. There's even a dotted line etched onto the mirror to let you know where the transition happens. I didn't know that any of the OEM MINI mirrors were like that, though.

You know... even if you have heated mirrors, I'd bet that you could connect a heated passenger side mirror on the driver's side. You would have to elongate the wires to be able to attach it on the wrong side, but I'd bet it would work.

Here are the part numbers.

'06 LT Aspherical Mirror - 51167160775
'06 RT Aspherical Mirror - 51167160776

Those mirrors on the Ducati are exactly what I am talking about. Quite a few cars sold in europe have them or they are available. A full convex mirror would drive me crazy. These give the best of both worlds. It would be nice if they are factory blue tinted glass but I have no idea.

I used to have a set on my Jetta and I have bought them for my wife's Beetle and her Passat wagon. I have even sourced them for an M3 I used to own (until it was stolen and burned). Never had a problem finding them for other cars but the MINI is a challenge.

The MINI OEM Euro aspherical mirror isn't quite the same. It has a slight convex on the inner two-thirds, and stronger convex on the outer one-third. I had hoped that the inner portion would be flat, and was disappointed that it is not. However, I still prefer it over my original flat mirror.

I have the Euro mirror on the drivers side (Multivex on the passengers side -- great for the cabrio). I got it by special arrangement from Mikey while I was ordering some other things from him. It is indeed difficult to get his attention. If he sees your e-mail, he responds instantly. If you don't get a response within two days, assume that he missed your e-mail and he doesn't go back to review his older mail, and you have to e-mail again.
