Right Front Caliper Failure

Today while braking hard to avoid a car that pulled out in front of me, my 06 MCS starting shaking violently and I wasn't slowing down as fast as I would have liked. Luckily I was able to pull into a strip mall and get her stopped. After gathering my wits I started to pull away and the car wouldn't move.
I tried again and it was acting like something was binding up in the front end.
After I realized I wasn't going anywhere, I called roadside assitance and an hour and half later the roll back came & loaded her up. The RF wheel wasn't turning while it was getting loaded. The driver came over and looked over the brakes and said "Did you have work done on your brakes?" I said "Yes, I had the front pads replaced about a month ago". He said "Well, it looks like someone didn't do something right and screwed up your brakes." That "someone" was my MINI dealer.
This should be interesting to see how this one turns out.
Has anyone else had/seen this happen?
Will keep you posted.

Bret

I had Midas do my brakes over 2 years ago, about 20,000 miles and no problems. At the dealer, every tech might be certified, but that doesn't mean they are the best at brakes. Going to a place like Midas, where each tech knows brakes and has done hundreds of brake jobs, will ensure that the job is done right.

Not sure if you can qualify the tow truck driver as a knowledgeable mechanic, maybe he is, donno. But lets not based your conclusion on just his opinion.

Altho sounds like the brake piston seized in the caliper to me. Should be covered under warranty anyway, let the dealer worry about it. Good luck.

I upgraded to Stop-Techs.

No problems there.

UPDATE on Brake Issue

Got my car back yesterday, the dealer said that one of the bolts holding the caliper on worked it's way loose and caused the caliper to fall into the wheel and lock it up. They had to replace the right front wheel and everything else was fine. All covered under warranty, they also found a leaking thermostat.

Cheers,
Bret

I think the tow driver was right and I hope the dealer fired, or severely reprimanded the tec

from the description I can imagine the top bolt wasn't tightened at all and worked loose allowing the top of the caliber to ride forward...hit the wheel and work like a perfect manual brake...the caliber was facing against the rotation and dug in. If it was the bottom bolt the wheel would NEVER jam as the caliber would face with the rotation and just slide merily along. and with how many turns those bolts require....it wasn't loose...it was in only finger tight. "HE double match sticks"...the dust cover on the caliber bolt would keep it from backing far enuf for the cal' to come loose. I'd bet that was missing too. I'll bet one dozen HOT Krispy Kreme's on this hypothisis....but you must p/up at my place.

I've done more that few pad replacements on GEN1's.....I can see it happening. But a 'pro' should be better. Check them puppies twice b4 buttoning up...no I'm not paid by the hour or the job. the 6 pack! brakes for a 6 pack of YooHoo .... can it be beat?
