HIT A Freekin' DOG

As the title says.....

No major damage to the dog or the car but it broke the fiborous plastic that the drivers side fog light bolts to.
There are three bolts here and it broke a smell piece off of the two most outer plastic housing.
I am trying to glue these back but I am not sure that this will hold.
Does anyone have this piece lying around.
Their is a photo in my gallery, please PM me if you can help.
Steve

Glue it together, that pice is big and expensive(radiator support). Some gorilla glue should do the trick.

I hit a GOOSE the other day and the f-er broke my front reflector. Feathers were EVEYWHERE... But geese have it coming.

Glad neither you, the K9 nor your car were harmed (much).

I hit a dog once in my last car, an '00 VW Golf GL 5-speed.

I was on my way home from work, cresting a hill doing 62 in a 55, on a busy rural route, when I see a tennis ball bounce across the road, with a German Sheppard following close behind, all on an intercept course with my front bumper. I slammed on the brakes and steered over to the very edge of a ditch, hoping the dog would slow down and miss my bumper, but I hit it in the shoulder/neck area, and it spun violently around several revolutions.

All of this happened while two kids and their dad watched in horror from the front lawn.

The dog was clearly in a very bad way, but still alive. The father picked up the dog, and got in his SUV and drove like a bat out of hell to the vet. The dog had to be put down.

As a dog owner, this experience broke my heart.

I feel as if I (accidentally) killed a member of their family, and it is tough for me to drive by that house every day, even though that was 6 years ago...

Why would they play in the front yard of a very busy route, when they clearly have acres and acres of land in the back yard to play? I was angry that the dog died because of not only me and my car, but their bad judgement.

Sorry to bring you all down, but sometimes damage to a car seems pretty inconsequential, compared to loss of life. Luckily, the dog in this case lived. I'm happy to hear that, after what I went through.

That's horrible For these reasons I get so pissed off at the people in my neighborhood who let their dogs wander around off leash, it is only a matter of time before something happens to one of them.

Glad to here the dog and car faired okay in this case.

For the 37th time, carry a $100 deductible on your Comp Coverage, folks !

If you do, Steve, report the claim. Sounds like you have more than $100 in damage and the Comp claim won't hurt your premiums.

The piece that holds the foglights behind the bumper skin goes all the way across the front and holds the radiator in place. Its pricey and unlikely anyone has one laying around. I broke the same piece smacking a cone REALLY HARD during an autocross, and then debated what to do for a long time. I ended up using "thick CA" which is a gel form of Super Glue. I took my time and clamped it the best I could then let the three pieces setup for 24 hours. My foglight is rock solid now and has been for several months. You can usually find thick CA at hobby shops. Good luck with the repair!

I had that piece broken once, after I backed out of the garage and ripped the bumper off on the door jam. I fixed it with epoxy and clear tape. I first sanded the area around the cracks to rough it up so the glue can stick to it. Then I laminated it with the tape. It has held up well.

One thing my dad always said about animals or people that come out into the street; don't ever swerve, just attempt to slow down.

That is what pissed me off the worse, we have a leash law in the county that I live and this dog was not on a leash or the owner would have been in the hood scoop!
The dog was a Springer Span and was ok.
The dog should have been in a fenced area or an underground fence system at least.
The piece is $285 from the dealer (Century in Greenville0 who had one in stock. I glued mine and it seems to be holding well (for now)
By the way it made mw feel like s**t as my 13yo son was with me.
As a P.S. 1 mile down the road I also hit or ran over a small rabbit that didn't fair as well as the dog, and my son in his wisdom stated "well at least you are going down the food chain in size"

I broke the EXACT same piece last year, and still haven't decided on what to do. I found that plastic support piece for $180, but the amount of work I'd have to do to replace it, is just not worth it to me. SO looks like I'm going with some uber gue/epoxy and see how it goes.

YEP....That is the radiator support

I ran over some furry woodland creature a while back....The cheapest place I found was rockauto.com the dealer wanted almost $300 for the part if i recall...rock was about $150....The good news is that you can fix it yourself easilly. you will end up pulling the radiator but you can leave the AC condenser hooked up so you wont need a recharge of freeon...good luck....It really is a job anyone could do

Lol

You know, if you wanted to you could likely pursue the dog owners for the cost of the repair, their homeowner's insurance probably would cover it if they don't want to pay out of pocket (ask me how I know - years ago some little kids damaged a car I had by throwing at big pointy rock at 'a snake' near my parked car they said; the parents homeowners covered the over 1 grand the repair turned out costing ). Bottom line is if the dog was not on leash or otherwise under their control they are responsible for damage it causes - just depends on whether you want to pursue it. Sad when pets, or people, suffer because their owners are irresponsible or just plain dumb about letting them roam.

It really made me made about the dog as I am an animal lover, but it seams that the older I get the less I like people.
The car is at the dealership getting a dif fluid leak fixed as they just put the clutch masters stage three, lightened flywheel, and a Quaife LSD in two weeks ago and the small leak appeared.
The tech said that he would look at the repair that I did and he might be able to add something around the pieces that I glued to shore them up some or if I liked he would replace while he is their since it was going to be removed with the repair to the dif/trany.
