Did they try a BMW 3 series style harness? Rumor has it that it may work. Let us know!

http://www.crutchfield.com is selling the facia adapter. Just call them and they can look up the part number. It was under $20 when I ordered. You'll need the Euro antenae adapter, too.

Hi there!

A BMW 3 Series harness plug will not fit.
You will need a harness plug for new BMW 5 Series (E39, from November 2000) i.e. BMW Z8. Of course, you will also need a facia adapter. Check out the pics.
In Europe both items are available through HAMA

I just checked with Crutchfield. The wiring harness for the late model 5 series and the late model 3 series is the same harness. So if you order a 2002 3 series harness or a 2002 5 series harness, you will get the same part - NEITHER of which is correct. FYI - I don't know if there is a difference for Euro models vs US - for US models the above is true (according to Crutchfield.Com)

The BMW harness will not work. I got a 5 series harness and it is far from what you need. Got my harness from mikeythemini off MINI2 board.

i'm looking for the same thing; here is a photo of my stock condition:

damn...can't figure out how to attach an image!$#@?!!

my factory end looks very much like the posted illustration: the blades, the two miniature multipin plugs. what about the antenna: mine has a miniature co-ax?

After searching for days, I found this harness at Log Jam Electronics. Looks like there is a US distributor after all.

Wiring Harness

I will let you know after my installation if it works.

That looks like the one mikeythemini from MINI2 sent me from the UK, so you should be good to go.

Hello guys!
I've got a few questions about the wiring harness/adapters for the MINI.
Do these wiring harnesses/adapters work with the Multi-Function Steering Wheel? Are there any particular/preferred In-Dash Receivers that do support connectivity to the Multi-Function Steering Wheel?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

No, the harness will only wire up the speakers/power. You will need a PAC SWI-X to interface the new headunit with the steering wheel controls. It's a device that sends an IR(infa-red) blast to your headunit like the steering wheel was a big remote control. Here is a link to install instructions for the SWI-X I posted earlier.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

I have had my MINI for Months now and still have not been able to hook up my Cassette Deck/10 disc changer.

Problem is, I won't be able to do it myself, so I have to find someone (I can trust) to install it for me!
I want to use someone who is knowledgeable on the SWI, so I can retain my steering wheel controls and who knows how to install an aftermarket system in a MINI.

Here's my saga so far. (FYI: This is in South Florida)
Went to Circuit City today: They knew about the SWI, but WILL NOT install audio components that were not purchased at Circuit City.
Best Buy: Will install my stuff & have the SWI, but DON'T KNOW what harness/adapter to use, and sent me on my way.
Sound Advice: Said they had done a few MINI's already, but to kiss my steering wheel controls goodbye.

I also stopped at a local custom shop, they definately had not worked on a MINI install before, and are going to look into it. Makes me a little uncomfortable to have someone 'trying out' stuff on my car!
