exhaust leak, possible sources?

hello all

under moderate to hard acceleration I am getting exhaust in the interior of my Mini, both with the windows up and down. It is an '03 MCS, with a MiniMadness cold air intake & cat-back.

There was an initial leak in the system (where the straight pipe joins the pipe that splits into two, to go to the mufflers) that was caused by the clamp being stripped; this was noticeable audibly as a "spluttering" noise as well. I have had this fixed, and the system sounds completely leak-free, but I am still getting exhaust in the cabin under hard acceleration.

Any thoughts?

I should mention that the dealer installed a new flywheel under warranty, so I think I can assume that at some point the exhaust was disconnected at the engine exhaust manifold point.

cheers

Could it be leaking from there enough to get into the cockpit yet not be audible as a leak?

Not having had much of a chance to get familiar with my Mini's underside (yet), would this be where the aftermarket components couple to the factory pipe?

cheers

Have a friend with gloves block the tail pipe, the back pressure will make the leak show itself.

minor update, I had my Mini back at the local Midas, and they went over it with a fine tooth comb and could find nothing. I have an appointment to get it back into the dealer, but was wondering again if anyone had any ideas on any likely culprits.

Since the dealer had the transmission out for the flywheel replacement, I still feel that it is somewhere at the bottom of the exhaust manifold.

any helpful info appreciated.

cheers

have you modified the divider panel behind your airbox?

Indeed, it has been modified. The Stage 2 kit I got from Mini Madness included a reprogrammed ecu, smaller supercharger pulley, a s/s cat back, and the intake as shown here:

http://www.mini-madness.com/index.as...WPROD&ProdID=9

which includes a divider with an enlarged hole.

You think this might have something to do with exhaust coming into the interior? If so, would that not mean that there was exhaust gases present somewhere in the engine compartment, and thus leaking from somewhere?
