Hood alignment, what size are those torx?

Has anybody adjusted the alignment of their hood. Bentley manual shows how to do it but it does not say what size the torx screws are. The largest I have on hand is a size 40 torx.

The screws are really tight and I need to make sure I have the proper size before I put any real force on them. Would it be best to loosen them with a friends air hammer gun?

The two screws for rear alignment of the hood are labeled number 3 in the image.

Thanks,
k

Just going to throw this out there, but it will be extremely difficult to get the hood aligned once you start this process.

Did your hood get bent somehow?

I think its always been off... The passenger side has about a 1.5mm gap and the drivers side hood at the rear has about a 2.5 - 3mm gap.

It does not really seem like it should be all that difficult. According the the manual really it seems like just loosening the 2 bolts on each side just a little so that the hoold can be nudged one way or the other and then re-tighten...

Also if I compare the front of the hood the drivers side does appear to be just a mm or so more forward than the passenger side.

Anyways, what is the proper way to loosen those torx bolts? I am pretty sure they are size 40 as those seem to fit really snugly but I can't budge them. Seems like an impact air gun is in order?

If you have an airgun, why not try it? Myself, I'd be more comfortable going to a body shop and paying the one hour labor rate to get it done. That way, if something breaks or goes wrong, it's their fault.

The first thing that comes to my mind is a huge increase in the chance of damaging the threads of the head of the bolt.
