(im)patient question

I am waiting on my first Mini. I'm not sure how long this process is supposed to take, so I am being as (im)patient as I can. We ordered on Feb 8. Got the Production number at that time. Started scheduled for production mode on Feb 19, and was transported to dock on Feb. 26.

Side note: the tracking by website is slower than I thought. The car was on the dock on Feb 26, but it did not show up on the website tracker until Feb 30. Definitely call 866-ASK-MINI if you really want to know the truth.

My question is this. I have seen people post what boat the car is or is supposed to be on. How do you find out this information? The rep I spoke with on ASK MINI did not know.

Thanks!
Joe

Start here, Joe.

Warning: this tracking stuff can become habit-forming.

Good luck!

You're welcome. Let us know what you find out. There are a lot of us waiting for ships to come in.

My R53 took 68 days from receipt of the production number to actual delivery. I just went back and looked it up (based on fevered blog posts) this morning. I know times vary dramatically based on all sorts of factors...but I'm using that as a baseline for my current order. If everything follows the same timeline, I should be taking delivery of the Clubman in early June.

My MA told me when I ordered that it was 6-8 wks and that the car should "realistically" be delivered to me the last week of april or the 1st week of may. The associate I spoke with on the phone with Mini today said Mid April.

Based on your timeline Doogs, it will take until May 15. Hopefully they have streamlined the process somewhat. Maybe wishful thinking, but it would suck if it were longer. I will deal with it, but it would suck none the less.

I'll keep you posted.

joejoe - you don't say where you're from, but my Clubman was delivered to the dealer about three weeks after it was loaded onto the boat in the UK. (Sailed from Southampton 2/26, delivered 3/18) I'm out on Long Island, and the local delivery center is in NJ. If you get on a boat this week, you may see your MINI by late April. I think your MA has provided a reasonable delivery estimate.

I need to update my profile. I am in Lafayette, LA.

I also need to remember what month I am in. Damn! I think I am losing my mind. I screwed up. I ordered on March 8th, not February 8th. The car was delivered to the dock on March 26, not February26. What does that do to my schedule? That's why I question what the MA and ASK MINI are telling me. How could the car be delivered end of april or early may? I don't know if they will be able to do it. But alas, we are happy to be this far along. 3 weeks since ordering and it is now waiting for a boat. That's pretty good, right?

Sorry for the mistake, and thanks for your support! That's funny. This IS like a support group isn't it?

Joe

A big chunk of that time was taken up in the month that passed between getting my production # and start of production. Another big chunk awaiting transport (13 days).

Once it reached the Charleston VDC, it was at my dealership in literally three days, and delivered two after that.

Makes me feel better, too! I learned from ASK-MINI yesterday that my Clubman's scheduled for production week 17 (April 14th-ish), so if it manages to track to the rest of the timeline, I should be taking delivery in late May, rather than June.

Doogs,

I see a lot of reference to week numbers. Is that the week of the year from the beginning?

Congrats on your ride!

Does anyone know how long it takes from issue of VIN until it shows up on WW (Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics) website? It keeps telling me invalid ID#

I believe so. Either that or PW from the start of the model year. I'll ask when I call to pester the fine folks at ASK-MINI again today!

JoeJoe,

I received my production number on 2/18, my status changed to "Scheduled for Production" in the owners lounge on 3/1 and thats when my VIN showed up, then production started 3/3, production completed either 3/5 or 3/6, then WWL showed me as on dock and booked on 3/7.

Then the boat was late and I was not loaded until 3/13 (she is currently steaming up the west coast.....) but there were more VINs booked that the ship actually loaded.

I believe the WWL site will show all the cars on dock as being "booked" on their next arriving ship, and probably a first come, first loaded basis until that allotment is filled - so nothing really counts until your VIN shows up as "loaded on board", the remainder of cars just get re-booked for the next ship.

But then, that just makes final delivery more exciting!

TigerMann,

My car has been completed and at the dock since 2/26, but still does not show up on WW booking info. Just to make sure I am doing this correctly, you do enter your VIN in the "Auto Cargo", correct? I am confused as to why it is not showing up.

Thanks
Joe

It could be booked onto a K-line ship instead of W & W, in which case it won't show up - call you MA and ask them, or 1-866-ASKMINI...

Have a call in to my MA. Called ASK MINI. They told me they don't have shipping info. Sounds kind of fishy. Said the MA would be the person to talk to from there.

tigermann,

I had to revise my initial post (about mid way down). I wrote the wrong dates. My car made it to the docks 3/26, not 2/26, but if it were booked on a WW ship, I would have thought it would be posted by now.

joejoe01,

See my post in the 1st Gear forum, week 13 support group. I found out today I'm on K-line, and had the same completion date.

joejoe- you're probably not getting shipping info because your car hasn't been loaded onto a ship. The WW site shows when a vehicle is logged-in and loaded, not when it's sitting on the dock. As long as you're sure you've got the correct VIN entered, it's not loaded yet. Also, I found both the MINIUSA Owner's site tracking, and the ASK-MINI number to be useless when it came to tracking. They were both days (up to a week) behind actual shipping status. I know others on this site got good info from ASK-MINI, but that was not my experience.
