How tight on M7 STB

recently bought an M7 stb for my 02mcs and wantd to kno how tight to torque the mounting bolts i ad heard 25lbs but i wasnt sure.

25 is about right, I torqued mine to 23 and havent had problems. It is important to not over torque these as there is a possibility of snapping the studs off if you over torque.

Directions call for 25 lb/ft.

25 ft/lbs max, max

The recommended tightening torque is very important. The threaded inserts will strip at a torque not much higher than 25 ft/lbs. The bolts won't break, but the inserts will fail. Then, you'll have the challenge of removing the stripped insert and replacing it with a new one. Not worth the aggravation of over torque.

Also, don't Locktite the bolts until you have driven the car and re-torqued the bolts. What happens is that the inserts will crush a little more from use and the whole assembly will settle and the bolts will loosen a bit. It is not uncommon to need to re-torque the bolts after use. This is NOT an M7 problem, it is a fact of life with the inserts set into sheet metal with hand tools.
