There have been good and bad experiences to report. I got my car from Classic in Ohio, but I got my services done at MCM. I had no problems at all.

A new dealership is opening in Grand Rapids right now. Might want to check them out also.

You would think.

I had a decent sales experience, and my service experiences have ranged from disappointing to, well, really bad.

I test drove an 07 Demo Cooper S last week at Motor City Mini last week. This was my first time at the dealership. The demo I drove was optioned the exact way I wanted. The MSRP was $24,550. The demo had 2k miles on it. The front tires were showing a little wear and the windshield needed to be replaced. The windshield would have been taken care of by the dealer prior to delivery. They were still asking $23,900 and did not seem to want to go any lower than that. My sales associate was going to let me know how much they would let the car go for after they figured out how much it costs to replace the windshield. This was on Thursday and I never heard back from them. I was hoping for more on my trade in too and that could have been why I never heard back from them. It is always a little disappointing when you do not get a call back.

I do understand they are running a business. Since there are no other Mini dealers in the area they are able to ask more for their cars. I was really ready to buy though. If they would have come down a bit on their price and offered me a little more on my trade, I most likely would have pulled the trigger.

They offered me "$1000, maybe $1500" for the car I sold for $2500 (and only that low because it was my brother - worth $4k).
MINI/BMW dealers as a whole seem to be pretty snobby about trades - they won't be able to sell your POS on their lot, so it isn't worth anything to them.
$600 off a model year-old demo is pretty bad. I paid MSRP for the '07 I ordered in June.
Grand Rapids MINI is close to taking orders if they aren't already - if you want to just order an '08.

call it a hunch but i think grand rapids mini is going to be a busy dealership. they already seem to want to enjoy the cars and their owners experiences. thats a great start.

i live in grand rapids, and have not had good experiences with motor city. i will not miss their "elitist" attitude as if you can't get a car anywhere else on the planet. my parents recently bought a mini from there and the salesman was clueless about incoming cars and came off shady to the point my parents asked me to close the deal (they are in there 60's) he was trying to force them into something they didn't want, saying car were unavailable when they were.

i had a similar experience and thats why i bought my first 2006 and second 2008 mini in chicago. it was worth the drive (extra 45 mins). i hope sharp in GR will do better, at least i can get my services w/o a 2hr drive to motor-pissy mini.

and my windshield is cracked for the 4th time (all factory glass replacements)
