Sorry.... I couldn't resist

I might be the 1st MCO user to do so or might not...

but....
I will flash my MCS' ECU with a new map from Powerchip.... distributed/co-developed by Mini-Motorsports (aka Randy).

All ya need is ......
- laptop/desktop w /internet connectivity to send & receive the mapped file

What ya get is.....
- program to load on your puter to interface w/ the ODBII port in your MCS
- serial cables & dongle
****all provided by Powerchip****

The sell for me was...I didn't have to remove/send my MCS' ECU via mail to a vendor for re-mapping and I will avoid leaving my car down for 3 days.

I ordered it yesterday thru Randy.....

I'm just wait'n on my ....stuff ....so I can....begin...flashing

Wish me luck...!

Peace,
D

Yo there Dennis ...

How's it going ... Brad here.
I do belive that I read where Randy is tweeking another version of the software.
Are you to receive that "code" ??
I am very eager to hear your impressions of the process/results as I too can not mail parts of my car for upgrade.
I also know that you will "tell it like it is"

So, break down like I'm an embryo dude, and give me the 411, lol.

Brad here too, D. I would like the "break it down like I'm an embryo" perspective also.

Sounds great D! Let us know how it goes....what about dyno tests and all that? WHat's it supposed to do? Is it as good as the EVOtech chip? I'm going to wait for Helix and the GIAC chip. Probably just a couple more weeks.

But tell us more if you can!!!

Sounds great, does that mean every time you get your ecu reflashed by the dealer you can simply reload your performance program? That would be a very nice feature to have.

Hopefully you get all of randy's updates as well.

Greatgro,

Here's the blurb from Randy

<<<After several test sessions and development meetings, MINI-Motorsport is proud to announce new ECU tuning for both the S and "Super S" (reduction pulley equipped). This was developed in conjunction with the Powerchip Group.

This software was developed using not only the dyno, but real time road data aquisition and mapping. This has a distinct advantage over other tuning set ups in providing drivability gains.

The tuned areas are ignition timing, air fuel ratio, speed limit removal, red line limitation, and most importantly, throttle response mapping.

The gains have been consisntent, and very noticeable in same gear acceleration tests. This is perhaps the most accurate test of torque and horsepower gains. The dyno also shows similar improvements to other ECU ramaps currently available - 13-16 horsepower.

The cost is $690 for the pulley tuning maps, and is available only through MINI-Motorsport.

Feel free to call if you have any other questions.

Randy
720-841-1002>>>

Peace,
D

I'm DYING to get my new MCS so I can order this stuff from Randy. The new Powerchips software sounds like a step in the right direction (easier and better)

Please keep us informed on your experiences Dennis
Cheers,
Ryan

steel....yup this is the new software

emobob....yes you can re-flash it... they re-send you the cables..and you go thru the process again. you are eligible for updates for a certain period of time.

supr....all you need is a laptop or a desktop puter w/ an internet connect...they supply all the rest (cables/software/updated file/etc)

rye,great, bbm & dark....will do..thanks

elite....
the process is...
-you copy the file from your ecu...with the cables & software you receive from powerchip.
-then you send the file via e-mail to powerchip
-powerchip re-maps your file and sends it back to you via e-mail
-now you re-flash/upload the file back to your cars ecu

peace,
d

So, You have to send the cables back after you are done? Wouldn't it be easier for later upgrades/reflashes to include the cable in the deal? It can't really be all that expensive for the cables can it? I would love something like this as i cannot part with my MINI for any length of time. I'm not that obsessed, it's my Daily driver. OK, So maybe i am that Obsessed after all.

Fred,
The cable is a serial cable for (the serial port) and a dongle (for the parrallel port).
The combo of the two is used for security so people don't simply just make their own cables and pirate the software/process. Of course there are ways around this, but you didn't hear it from me

Do they have a dongle for USB equiped laptops that have not actual parallel ports on them?

The new Powerchips software remap thru Randy was done for a bunch of us at a "pulley party" in Atlanta last weekend. I did pulley and ecu...and it's no exaggeration: the car SCREAMS now! Remapping is custom to your car's mods: I have intake, exhaust, pulley, so ecu was mapped to account for that. Also, the mapping is set for fuel octane in your specific area. We have 93 octane in Georgia, so it was set for that.

Randy said we can get remapping forever with this ecu setup... just as described: they send you cable and your software "key" chip (which is individual to your car's VIN only). The rest of the description you've read is accurate...download your ecu map, send it to powerchips, they remap and send back to you. All within an hour or so. Then you return the cable and "key".

This is worth every cent! Don't even hesitate.

what happened to the Evochip that was so popular at a few of the pulley installs? How do they compare?

As it was explained to me.....

This new map has components from both the evotech and the powerchip camps.
As the expression goes..."the best of both worlds".

Time ...seems to bring improvements to all endeavors and with the many talented people who are developing/testing & modifying the ECU mapping strategy....we all will surely benefit in the long run.

I personally chose to enter this ECU upgrade arena...at this particular point in time.
It was time IMHO to jump...so I did

Monday will hopefully be a fun day

Peace,
D

Aloha D,
Thanks for keeping us updated on this upgrade.
Let us know how it feels initially and after a bit of time to let the software adjust.
Driveability and use on the street, maybe how it might affect mpg or work with your other upgrades.
