SOOOO Torn - DS/Roof color dilemna...

Clubman S is ordered but there's still time to change things. I was pretty set on the DS/B combination but now I keep being haunted by photos of the DS/S combination and I think I may be changing my mind!

Is it just the lighting perhaps - I haven't been able to find any of the DS/B that really pop! And of course there aren't any examples to be found at my local dealership.

I'm getting too wrapped up in this - I know I would like either colour. I just need some fresh objective input.

This will be a Florida car btw and will be tinted to the legal limit.

This may sound a little strange, but I would go with whichever matches the wheels you've selected. If you chose any of the black wheel options, I would go with the black roof. If you chose a light silver wheel, I would go with the silver roof.

In those combinations, the black would give a nice agressive appearance, and the silver would give a more refined appearance.

Interesting perspective - one of the reasons I like the DS/B combo is the elegance of just the 2 colours but you're right - there is in fact 3 if you include the painted wheels... My config includes the Bridge Spokes and that won't change unless something happens aftermarket which won't be for a long time.

These are from the configuratorator:

You hit on the reason I went with the Pure Silver body on my Clubman vs. the sparkling silver. (MC only - no dark silver option for me)

Whichever way I went with wheels, I was staying with just 2 colors. In many ways, I prefer the black wheels, but it was not worth another $2500 just to get black wheels, plus a 16" wheel is large enough for me, and makes replacements easier on the wallet.

I am not a big fan of the black rear bits on black roofed Clubmans. Only exception being Chili Red/Black roof. I think DS/S looks fantastic and you get to have both silvers ever offered in the MINI! I also have the bridgespokes and they are very handsome wheels!

Go with silver instead of black, only because you'll be saying "man I wish I went with silver instead of black". There's nothing wrong with black, but you're in a silver mindset right now, might as well go with it.

I love the reasoning here - thanks Email to MA sent!

Build date is 4/16 so I've got a couple of weeks to futz around.

Cough - yes! I should have included some credits I guess.

Those BBS style rims look sick! I was fondling a set in my dealership the other day. Bit too rich for our blood at this point unfortunately.

We saw a DS/S Clubbie with a roof rack motoring around on Saturday and it REALLY looked good! I especially like the roof rack on the Clubbie -- suits it and makes it look super-sporty.

A theory I have is dark colors look best with Silver and light colors look best with black. Chili Red is light red and Night Fire red is the dark.

Just a personal thought.

I'm happy with it. I think it hides the presence of the monster sunroof better than silver, and creates some fluidity between bottom and top... I think the tint helps finish that up. I also like the rearview with the black c-pillars that rap around the bottom.

RE: the wheel color issue... I like the dark-to-light from top to bottom look. I'm going to keep the wheels silver, because the car is pretty dark otherwise. If I had black wheels, I might be tempted to de-chrome the whole car!

MUCH prefer the black roof with DS - two silvers on the rear look weird, and the black looks much more coordinated with the wraps over the wheels. But I haven't made my decision yet so don't really deserve to have an opinion!!

I have the Dark Silver with Pure Silver top..just like the first picture in the post. I love the color combo and have heard many compliments. I like an aggressive looking car, but I don't like when it looks dirty---and too much black, to me, creates a dirty look. Bold, mean, aggressive, masculine--but not my taste.

For DS body, I really like the silver roof/pillars. A soft contrast, almost GP-like!

the 2 silver shades work so well together ... never liked a MINI with a black roof though, so I am biased.

Once again, it really all comes down to personal taste and sometimes just wanting a change of pace.

LOL! Thanks for the compliment. I went with the silver lid because we just got rid of a BLACK Mustang GT Convertible.....and I will say now that I will NEVER own another BLACK car....not even partially BLACK!

Don't get me wrong, black cars are absolutely beautiful for the first 15 minutes after washing them (with de-ionized water of course), but to keep the car beautiful requires alot of work. I have had a dark grey truck and silver car, they hardly show dirt. Just my .02.

I agree with raceface, black gets dusty, and quick. My California Car Duster has come in very handy... I just use it on the roof in between washes to keep things looking pretty. Because I don't have to do the whole car, it's quick and easy. I'd be washing this baby every weekend anyway, no matter what color I chose.

That said, I realized I had a couple pics of the rear, which I mentioned before as one of the things I like most about the black.

MIB was Astro Black moonotone. The interior got WAY TOO HOT in the summer sun around Indy. So I would suspect more heat generated in a black roofed MINI in Florida.

Ok - I think that has sealed the deal for me. DS/S it is. Our last 3 cars have been dark colours but have all had tan interiors. With a black/grey interior in the offing I think the silver roof would be the wise choice for Florida comfort.

Thanks for everyone's input!
