Nothing is safe from me...
Well i was talking to chris(Bang110) and we decided to paint the dash pieces: after dismantling the dash(painless really) and a trip to home depot the dash is being repainted satin(flat) black!
Here is some of the pics at the primer stage...i think by the time it was all said and done about 6 coats of primer were applied...basically i used the can till it ran out lol!

chris used some bondo to fill in the airbag indention on the airbag cover...nice and smooth!

you can see all 5 pieces in the pics
I did the same thing, with great effect, only i couldn't easily figure out how to get my airbag cover off, so ive got black, black, black, crappy gray plastic, black. it looks "great"
what paint are you using? When i was younger and more foolish I had a honda which i painted the interior accents of with regular ole Krylon. It faded in about 6 months.

I'm interested in seeing how this turns out. I'm sooo close to taking mine to a professional body shop and having it painted.... I remember the days of pulling off plastic pieces and rattle canning them...

I just painted mine a flat black too. I love it. If you don't have a paint chosen yet, I would suggest the Wurth Bumper paint. It has a nice fine spray to it so that you don't wind up with clumping like one might see from larger spray heads (Krylon gave me a problem with clumping)
Did you fill in your "airbag" imprint on the airbag cover?

You need to remove three screws from the bottom of the airbag cover (don't confuse them with the two or three screws for the glovebox, which are in close proximity) Then remove the top of the dash (two torx on either side, underneath plastic panels which just pull off.) From there there are three more torx on the top, as well as two nylon retention straps that require a 10mm socket - the one on the right is tougher to get to - use an extension.
After ALL the screws are out, lift up on the bottom (if you get any resistance, check for more screws) and the cover will pivot out. Note that in the top are three green plastic screw retention pieces. These just LOVE to fall out
and subsequently fall in behind the glovebox
as you wriggle the cover out. Be warned!
Note that it is a breakaway cover, so don't force anything, or you can find it breaking away unexpectedly. Only handle the frame where the screws go through.

if you decide to bondo the airbag indent smooth you may have to bondo it twice because some bubbles may pop up
