Video of my GP at the track - Summit Point

Hi Everyone!

Thought I'd post a lap of my in-car video at the track this past weekend. This was my first time at the track with the GP - lots of fun!

Ah i see it now. What event were you at? I love that track. The carousel is my favorite part but I always loose what I've gained on the long straight

This was the National Capital Chapter BMW CCA Drivers' School. They 12 people per run group, so it was wide open most of the time.

why is that car so loud? Yikes. Sounds like you have the mike in the intake.

To bad so short, looked like a nice drive. Those GPs seem to do great on the track.

Just be happy you weren't there the weekend before (like I was).

Saturday was rainy and ~50. At one point we got shut down for a bit due to a thunderstorm.

Sunday was clear but ~30. It eventually warmed up to ~40.

Thanks!

My only mods aside from what comes with the GP kit are Hotchkis front camber plates set to -2.0, and RE-01R tires.

Good guess, I had the mic taped to a wire next to the brake fluid reservoir under the hood.

I like the combination of engine/tire noise with the mic placed there. It's certainly better than no external mic, which ends up being a whole lot of wind noise, at least with my camcorder.

Canon Elura 100. I got mine refurbished, it was one of the few that I found that had an external mic input, wide angle lens option, and DV.

since im a newbie at the minis... whats GP mean?

so was 1:37s the times you were running consistant?

also next time coming off of turn 4 try to hit a later apex to set you up for turn 5 and then the carousel you could easilyknock a sec off the time and try to get on the gas a little quicker and i have no doubt you could run 1:35s there

good job tho again!!! have you run the new course yet?

if you decide to come up to nj this year to the new track, lemme know ill def come out to watch!!

The GP is the limited edition run of John Cooper Works cars that were produced at the end of production of the R53. More info here - http://gpmini.net

Fairly consistent in the 1:36's...plus/minus maybe .3 seconds.

Thanks for the tip on turn 4. My instructor also felt there was more speed to be had through 5...

Which new course?

Shenandoah Circuit - I got to run it in 2005 while I was still living in NJ. Its a blast with a replica of the carousel on the Nurburgring, and a mini corkscrew leading onto the back straight.

Nice to meet you this past weekend. That was a great run group -- it often seemed like I was the only one on the track. I think the most fun was the first run on Sunday on the wet track. I'll see if I can post some video of that.

Here's a view from inside my car. I overexposed the image trying to get a glimpse of corner entry speeds. The track is very different if you haven't run since they repaved. I ran most of the weekend in the 1:38 to 1:40 range, then after the no-brakes exercise I was below 1:36 for the last session.

Next up is Jefferson and back to the Main Circuit with the Del Valley Chapter CCA in April.

Cheers.

Nice meeting you too!

Agreed, the wet run on Sunday was entertaining. The first run Saturday was interesting too - the E36 in front of me lost it at turn 1, but was able to keep it on the road to the skidpad.

The car looks pretty cozy from that view!

When I was there with CarGuys the instructors were saying on the order of 5-6 seconds (if you know what you're doing). They were also saying that the first event out after the re-pave was a PCA event and they had 5 or 6 cars go off track on 9 because of additional speed they could carry with the newly paved track.

Whoa. that video was cool, but I agree with Onasled, that mic placement is was (to quote Bill Murray in Caddyshack) <<a bit harsh>>. The shriek from the intake was crazy, especially when it really distorts at the top of the rev range.

Share more videos in the future, definitely, but please reconsider where you put that external mic.

Yeah, they extended the pavement a bit past the rumble strip on 10. But watch out as it ends rather abruptly. There's a similar situation around the turn-in point for 4.

You might be able to see what I'm talking about in a my video from March 9th.
