Stupid Clubman Questions

I have always believed that the only stupid question is on not asked.... so...

I have a new clubman..

for all you clubman owners...

Do you see any indication that the rear doors are open on the dash?? I know the interior lights are on.. but is there a bell or a light on the dash??

for you clubman owners with steptronic...

Does your steering wheel lock when the car is in park??

and another thing.. does the little fold up box come with a top?? do you take the bottom liner and reverse it somehow??

I get a bing and a error displayed on the tach display for the doors. Mine however is a manual, so I don't know about the steering lock.

Ok.. another stupid question..

the sport push button...

when i press that button.. i get a little sign in the tach that says sport.. the auto trans readout changes to DS and the green light comes on....

is that different,, from just taking the shifter and putting it in manual mode??

the brochure seems to read as if there are 3 combinations.. I cant seem to "feel" a difference..

any body notice anything??

Since the R55 is so similar to the R56 (which my wife owns), I think I can answer your question. The sports button actually is different than just taking the shifter and putting it into manual mode. That simply allows you to control it manually (up to a point). The sports button, when engaged, will actually change how your tranny is shifting (especially in auto mode and ESPECIALLY when slowing down. Leave in auto and check the difference in both your launches off the line as well as when coasting to a stop with your foot of the accelerator.

When you start the engine, the OBC monitors various conditions and the rev counter display shows an outline of the car to indicate that the door condition is being checked. If you move off with any door or the hood insecure this diagram changes to indicate a fault and where it is, and a warning gong sounds.

This may help:

It is actually very difficult to drive off with the rear doors open as they pop open if you try to close them gently - unlike the club door, which will be held by a safety catch if you don't slam it properly. (So the warning display is especially helpful to check that.)

I can't comment on the Sport button on an auto as I'm manual too but it also firms and sharpens the steering response slightly.

Kinda. There's a thread Coupe Talk that mentioned the multiple ways the auto shifter can work in various combinations:

There are 8 different AT configurations:
D - full auto
DS via sport button - full auto
DS via shift - full auto
DS via shift w/sport - full auto
full time M via shift or paddles
full time M via shift or paddles plus sport
Temporary M via paddles from D
Temporary M via paddles from DS via sport button

my question is .. then.. is there any difference between the DS setting you get if you just push the button or if you put it into DS via the shift lever????

No difference in what the "Sport" does or feels like.

Do you mean like in the image here where there's only one reverse light?

I believe that the reverse light is on whichever side the driver is on...

Can you snap a pic of that? My Clubman has the rear fog light and it is mounted on the left tail light. The reverse is on the right.

I have an automatic Clubman S and the steering does not lock anymore when you take out the slotted key. It does however in my '05 R53 S. But that car uses a mechanical key/lock system that is no longer offered in the second gen MINI.

well i just bought the car a week ago and i have not taken any pixx's yet until the plates come in, but i am serious that the reverse light is only on the left, not right..i tested it many times..

maybe i am thinking, they put the light either on left or right in different parts of the usa or country...or i could be wrong and it should be only on the right.

i really dont like the reverse light cause it makes you think the other light should be on and that it is not working..i dont know why they use that feature, the least they could have done was make the reverse light on both sides, not one cause it does not make sense and does not even look good cause it looks like there is a light not working on the right

yes it looks like the "other"reverse light is broken, but it is part of the "anti-symmetrical" design philosophy of the Clubman. Do you have the rear fog light? Maybe it is different on cars without it?

The Sport button changes the throttle response and steering sensitivity. In auto trannys the sport mode (DS) makes the revs higher at shift points. I believe that the sport button in combination with sport mode also makes shifts faster between gears as opposed to normal mode (D) auto. It is possible that manual shifts with the sport button depressed are faster as well but I have no way to confirm this.
