Park Distance Control?

Does anybody currently have the park distance control option on their mini?

I'm considering ordering a Mini Clubman with PDC for a variety of reasons:

1. I'm a little concerned with the visibility through the two split barn doors in the rear.

2. I generally suck at parallel parking

3. I live in an urban, and fairly densely populated area where street parking is a way of life.

For those that have PDC, what has your experience been? Do you like it? Has it been helpful?

Thanks!

If it is the budget order it,I had it on my convertible and it really does help...especially on the blind spots and especially if you have a lady in the family driving the car...just a little more confidence in backing up and into parking spaces

- interesting inference there. At least you said "lady", so I'll forgive you.

I believe you Mark, but as a female I just had to write something. Honestly, I didn't take your post in a bad way at all.

I was always great at backing out of our narrow driveway - or anywhere else - until I started wearing "progressive lenses" and now I find the only way for me to do it properly is to look over the tops of my glasses.

I will say that during my two test drives, I did note that the rear view did seem a tad smaller.

Ahchoo- Sounds like you answered your own question. If parallel parking is a must, and you're not that good at it, by all means get the PDC. When I took my driving test (don't ask when!) it was with a 60's Chevy Impala that was about 20 feet long. I guess if I parallel parked that boat without hitting anything I'll be O.K. with a Clubman!

I didn't get it on my MCS but I wish I would have. We have it on our MCc and I love it. A lot of people would say they don't need it but I think once they had it, they would like it a lot.

For those that like having PDC, do you enjoy it as a stand alone option, or do you use PDC in conjunction with a navigation unit.

I do know that a nav unit coupled with the PDC option produces an image on the nav screen that helps drivers visualize how far they are from the object behind them.

But I'm only considering getting the PDC option without navigation so I was wondering if that would have an impact on its effectiveness. Are the beeps enough?

I don't have navigation; the beeps are ample warning of anyone passing behind you while you reverse as well as helping to avoid hitting anything solid!

We have PDC on our Volvo XC90 and we love it. I prefer it over a back up camera or in the case of the Clubman, over a visual of how much space remains because I think it's better to look out your back window while backing up vs looking at something on the dash which can be very disorienting.

Here are a couple of views of the PDC, if you have the Navi installed in the speedometer.

Anyone know why women are such bad parallel parkers?

Cos they always think their bum is bigger than it really is.

Thanks for the pictures...what do the specific colors indicate?

Also, are there any good videos of this in action?
