Bluetooth + Sunroof? Any impact?

Hello all,

Now that I've decided on an automatic Clubman (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=131873)

I now need to decide on some options. I would like the bluetooth option because drivers in CA will soon have to use hands free systems when talking on their cell phones while driving.

However, I also really like the idea of a sunroof. Living in San Diego we have more than enough sun shine to make such an option worthwhile.

BUT, I'm wondering what impact the sunroof has on the mic for the bluetooth option which I believe is installed near the rearview mirror. I imagine that with the sunroof open, the wind noise would be too great to carry on a conversation using the blutooth functionality.

But is the wind noise too great even if the sunroof is closed? Does anybody have any experience with using the bluetooth option with the sunroof? Thanks again everybody. You all have been so helpful!

No impact on location

The mic is built into the pod that has the toggles including the toggle or the sunroof and is located in front of the sun roof opening.

With the roof closed it works well. Everyone says it is as clear as my old OnStar mic which was mounted almost over my head in the Hummer.

Since I live in Seattle and have yet to see a decent day since taking delivery so I have only been on the phone with the sun roof in vent mode and that also has no impact. Hopefully someone else has some experience with the roof fully open.

I'm in Seattle too, but apparently I'm too used to October, since I had the sunroof open for our sunny 48° day last week.

Also no problems with the roof closed, but my wife asked me to close it
when I had it fully open. I didn't ask for specifics, but she could tell there was a difference and asked why it was so noisy.

I was on the freeway at the time though, with the sunroof completely open at around 35MPH or less, it's much quieter and I bet that it would be back to no noticeable difference.

Thanks for the info. I think I might for the sunroof now that I know it doesn't serverely impact the use of the blue tooth function

Another question

I had one more concern. I've read that the sunroof only has a mesh cover, meaning it is impossible to completely block out the sunlight.

For those who have the sunroof, what has your experience been? Is it annoying? On sunny days, does this greatly increase the temperature of the car while it's parked somewhere?

Thanks!

I've asked several of my friends what they thought about sunroofs before adding in the sunroof package. Whether they use it or think of it as a mere luxury. In my opinion, it should be left off. I have a sunroof in my current car but hardly found any use for it at all. Maybe because I like the weather when it rains.

The mesh cover is okay, but I recommend keeping your sunglasses handy. I don't know if it's bad to do this, but I've been known to open the moon roof and close the mesh cover for shade.

I had the sunroof on our 2007 Mini and now have the Clubman S and did not order the sunroof. Live in Florida and the sun is just too strong and only makes for the car being hotter. The screen does not block out the heat from the sun.

I live in Dallas and am seriously considering having dark tint installed on the sunroofs. It isn't as bad as I thought it would be right now, but when we start hitting the 100's this summer I have a feeling I will want every bit of light avoidance I can get so the A/C can keep up.

I love in So. California and got the double sunroofs -- all the windows except the front passenger and driver's windows tinted the darkest shade. Works like a charm -- even had the windshield 'eyebrow' dark -- I'd recommend doing it. Cost me $230

You can get an inexpensive set of shades that fits in between the screen and the glass sunroof and blocks out all light.

sunroof

I have a sunroof on my R55 and had one on my R56 and my wife still has one on hers. All of them had been tinted to 5% and it works like a charm . You still have the convenience of the sunroof without w/o the heat or glare that happens without it. The mesh never did a thing for us.

I've had sunroofs in other cars and only found out that is an additional place to leak water, wind and noise. So when I ordered my Clubman I left it off. I wouldn't ever want another.

Just tint the sunroof. After having 35% put on all my windows and 50% on the front window I went back and had another layer of 35% added to the rear barn door windows only as morning headlights on big trucks are BRUTAL. I also had them tint the sunroof's with 5%

I park my car in full sunlight in FL. I can tell you with tint on every glass surface the inside temp is 30 to 40 degrees lower than the exact same car with only the sides and back tinted.

The key to cooler inside car temps is to tint the front window as well. Just don't be silly about it and have it so dark it becomes dangerous like I see many punks do.

Hey, weclome to the club. Where in San Diego are you? Im in Oceanside. I use a jawbone bluetooth with my Treo. I love it. It has that noice cancellation technology. I wish the mics in the cars did, becuase when you use the built in mics, the other people alwaus have a hard time hearing you with the windows open, sunroof etc. etc.

Check out one of the local clubs suchas clubSCMM.com

I live in central San Diego, about 4 miles north of downtown in the North Park neighborhood.

How does the call quality sound with the sunroof and windows closed? Is there still much background noise?

With the jawbone, anyone you call will not hear background noise, only you. You can see it at any apple store or at most ATT and Verizon stores.

There are alot of Minis in your area. Many are SCMM Members. See ya at an event one day.

Not sure if they were referring to these, but here are some.

http://www.stratmosphere.com/mini_interior.htm

I have them and they fit between the glass and the mesh shade.
