I have seen this here somewhere, but haven't seen it lately so I thought it might be a good thread. I'm sure you've been the first at the stoplight before. Ever get tired of getting neck cramps from trying to watch the light turn to green?

There is a very easy solution. It's called LightInSight which you can look at on their website www.lightinsight.com. At first I was skeptical, but I took a chance and purchase the device. I think it was $15 with a couple bucks for shipping. When it arrived, I simply followed the directions and applied it inside the car just to the left of the rear view mirror. This thing is fantastic! I can see the stoplights, no more bending over, or trying to look through the moonroof. It does not amplify sunlight and it stays put!

This is probably the best thing I have purchased for the mini, and highly recommend it to you all. Believe it or not I am NOT a salesman for LightInSight either. Check it out!

I have one on all my cars[3]. It does just what it says it does....keeps the light in sight.

 

Yea I love mine also, bought a few extra's and gave them out for Xmas .....everyone thought they were kinda goofy until they installed it in their cars....now they are asking me if I have any more

 

Mine is still hanging out in the boot waiting for a day warm enough to wash the inside of the windscreen. Maybe next week. For now, I pull far enough forward that I can see it through the sunroof.

 

Makes stop and go driving (at least the stop light part) a million times easier.

 

I do not stop on the line If you can not see the traffic light chances are you pulled up to close. Now there are some intersections that make seeing the light hard but give yourself some room and stop 4 to 6 feet behind of the big white line and now you will have $15 to put gas in the tank.

 

Not necessarily true. Much of it depends on the car, the intersection, how tall the driver is, leg length, seat height, etcetera.

There are plenty of intersections in my daily driving where I would literally have to stop 2-3 car lengths back from the line if I wanted to see the traffic light without bending my neck or slouching down in the seat. The convertible MINI may be worse in this regard than the hardtop - I don't know. But both my wife and I have the LightInSight lens in our convertibles, and I've given several of them as gifts to new convertible owners, and everyone has loved them.

 

That is why I said there are some intersections that can be a pita no matter where you stop.

How would one of these do if you had your windshield tinted with a sun strip 6 to 8 in down from the top of the windshield?

 

Sorry, I mis-read your post. I got the impression that you were saying that stopping 6-8 feet back would solve the problem, even on the "troublesome" intersections.

As for using the LightInSight with a tinted visor strip, you could give it a try to see if the traffic lights are visible during the day through the tint. If it doesn't work, I'd use the lens as a template to remove a lens-shaped piece of the tint with a razor knife.

This is an essential product for tall-in-the-torso MINI drivers. This is the first car in which I've had a problem, and the Light-in-Sight has made stoplight visibility a non-issue for me.

 

+2 (one for each of the lightnsight devices we have on our MINIs).

I love it. My other half, not so much because she's only 5'5" and doesn't have the problem to begin with. She says, "it's weird seeing all the tree branches in that thing as I'm driving down the road".

 

Even though I'm 5' 7" I do have problems with some traffic lights (I've never missed a green light yet, though!). I suspect it's because I've jacked up my seat a bit.

I will probably see if I can get one of these for a belated birthday present.

 

If you stop 8 feet behind the line at some of our intersections, the light
will never change unless there's someone on the other side of the intersection
who has pulled up to the white line to trip the sensor.

I love my light-in-sight. have had one for over 4 years now.

 

There's really a wide variety of people that can benefit from the LightInSight. If you're tall in the torso, your head is probably up close to the roof, if you've got long legs, your seat is probably moved back pretty far, and if you're short enough to have the seat raised substantially, that can make for a difficult line-of-sight, too.

 

...being 6'1" I have plenty of room in my Mini, yet I do find trying to see the signal a problem when I'm at the line. Lowering my seat has helped, I will try the "LightInSight".

 

Huh? At the intersections in DC, if you stop 6-8 feet in front of the white line, you're going to impeed pedestrians or hit someone crossing the road. If you stop 6-8 feet behind the line, the light won't change, the guy behind you won't stop (Rear ender), and you still can't see the light. Finally, I don't know of a gas station anywhere that you can fill up for $15! Look at it this way, it's another mod for the Mini! (Best $15 I have ever spent on a car mod!)

 

I am 6'3" tall and the seat is all the way back and all of the way down. I have never missed a light yet! How, you ask? Simple, my wife yells "the light is green, are you going to sit there all day?" She has never missed a light yet! When the top is down, I can see them over the top of the windscreen and I can drive alone.

 

i am 5'6" and dont have any trouble seeing stop lights or road signs..maybe cause when i drive my seat is lowered to the max and tilted back just a bit also slid far enough back so i can still reach my pedals..so i sit far enough from the steering wheel as possible, that i wont get major damage from airbag deployment if in an accident *knock on wood*....the only problem i have here in Cali is with the sun shades that are on stop lights...they are screens put over the light itself not the fixture..Some places you cant tell what color the light is..even with sunglasses (polarized) on during the day..I dont think i would benefit from this item...i dunno about anywhere else but the intersections i hit the lights are pretty far so i have line of sight with stop lights...

 

I just got mine in the mail last Saturday. When I opened the envelope my first thought was, "I paid $15 bucks for this cheap pos?" However, I installed it yesterday and, for the first time ever, I could see every light on the way to work today without going through contortions. Yes, the profit margin must be pretty high for Mr. Light in Sight, but for me, it's worth every penny.
