Bumper to bumper warranty

I have a 4 year / 48,000 bumper to bumper warranty on my 2003 mini s that has 39,000 miles. I have had it for 4 months now. Thanks to you guys I blacked it out took of my stripes and improved my brake lights. But I really want to install a pulley and/or air intake. I will probably end up doing it either way but will this totally void my warranty all together or just say the affected parts? And it cost me an extra 2,000 when I bought they car for the warranty (may be bad idea,at the time?) So how bad of an idea is it to get the pulley or being a low mileage car will I most likely not need it?

It really depends on the dealer. Mine will void the whole powertrain warranty for something as simple as a catback exhaust. Others will just void the affected parts, so if you do a super charger pulley you will void the supercharger and depending on how the dealer feels the water pump as well.

Is you warranty for an additional 4 years and 48,000 miles? So roughly 4 years from date of purchase or 80+,000 miles on the odo?

If so, I think I'd have a hard think about doing too many modifications without asking the warranty company first. Get an idea how they will react to service issues that revolve around the parts you mod.
You'd hate to spend $2k on something then throw it away over a $200 pulley.

What's the hook?

Why would the waterpump be voided?

From: Washington. No, the other one.
Their reasoning: The waterpump runs off the same belt that runs over your modded sc pulley, therefore it would be the cause of any waterpump failure.
(Their reasoning, not mine. Anything to get out of warrenty repair.)

well.. warranty is a PITA as is, so if you really want to keep that warranty and get your car fixed with minimal bs, I would keep the car stock...

My friend installed a pulley and a dealer, I'm not going to say which one, voided the whole powertrain warranty as well as suspension. "extra power puts extra stress on suspension" is what they told him. Typical dealer thinking there.

April-08 Consumer Reports has an article about their survey of extended warranties.

Extra power puts stress on the whole car. Including the *i think 10 year* paint warranty.

I thought the dealer had to prove "after" whatever malfunction that the "part" caused the malfunction.

common mis-conception

They can and will deny warranty service, they "prove" it in a court.... after you have spent thousands on a lawyer to get it there! and either fixed your own car or done without it for months, perhaps years

AND they will win in court because the MM act is meant to protect manufacturers not consumers.
