Water to air intercooler

What is currently out there and how do they rate?
Any chance of M7 bringing one out (they make the coolest looking stuff)?
Cheers

Using the neat "search" feature on this forum, I found a number of threads on this subject. Here's one:

Check it out, or use the feature. Enjoy the reading!

We have tested one that COOLS better than every other W2A out there. We are working on getting it to market soon

RMW's will likely be cheaper than all the rest of these systems, and I know Jan has worked with Danny extensively to try and simplify the installation process (The reason most people don't go W2A isn't because they don't work well, but because they don't have $3000 after install for an intercooler system).

Other options:

MINI Madness $1549.00 (Had this on my first MINI, I had no instrumentation to measure heat soak, and never tracked that car, so I couldn't speak to it's effectiveness, but based on the design, I can tell you that it will heat soak quickly, and take a while to recover. It has very limited water storage, and on top of that, the heat exchanger is miniature.)

GRS Motorsports Price Unknown (I haven't heard much about this IC)

Gintani ~ $2200 (Extremely elaborate system, requires at the minimum 6-7 hours of PROFESSIONAL labor installation. Replaces the entire intake manifold)

I am happy with mine and I don't have any problem with heat soak. There is enough water, big header tank and a fair price.

On the track the small heat exchanger on the MINI-Madness W2A could be an issue. Like I said, i've never tested it with hard data (I have tested the DFIC and the OEM IC) so I can only speculate.

Yes the Gintani is more elaborate than any other system out there, but there's a reason for it...It's a cast body that fully integrates the intake manifold...It removes the harsh bends on the stock intake system allowing more of a direct path for the air. It uses a large front mount heat exchanger to keep the water cool.

Randy webb had the gintani on his Twin charged mini and couldn't heat soak it on the track with the race heat exchanger.

It does cost a little more but you get what you pay for! Installation is about the same as changing the stock manifold and pulling the 5 or so screws out that holds the front bumper on.

I know that there are some earlier proto-type gintani coolers out there and I can attest that many changes have been made between then and the release of the aftercooler program!

Gintani, along with some other vendors, doesn't believe in hurrying to push a product out the door that isn't up to their high standards. I have nothing but good to say about my dealing with them.

Hey,

How well does that M7 Heat shield work under your Intercooler? And do you have the one over the exhaust Man as well?

I'll be leaving-in the rear heat shield, but I may be yanking the front one (under the IC) out. I just got a ported intake manifold from ENDYN. After I have it ceramic coated, I might not need front the shield at anymore.

I also just had a custom data acquisition box made by Digatron. I'll been doing some temp testing w/probes in the SC horns and manifold. That shield may actually be trapping some heat at/around the intake manifold. It does a decent job for its intended purpose, (Air-Air, DFIC protection) but I'll know soon if it's appropriate for this application.

Also, the box where the old IC used to be is just an open plenum. The cooling happens in the longer box that runs parallel to the CAI box.

Thanks for looking!
