Hotdog!
Hotdog!
So here's the deal. I've got a co-worker that owns a Honda S-2000, he and I are always talking about driving and having some fun on the twisties. Today he came over and said that he's bringing the S-2000 out of winter hibernation and has some new sticky tires. Inevitably we come back around to driving and it is suggested that we go out driving sometime.
Since you guys are usually my driving buddies I figured I'd open this up to you as well. A week from tomorrow we're going to get together and head up for a hotdog in Bailey. Needless to say there will be twisties involved as we test the the Cooper against the S-2000. So anyone that is interested in either hotdogs from a giant hotdog stand or visiting twisties, let me know.
Weather permitting we'll meet up at the RTD park 'n ride near Ken Caryl and C-470 (map if you need it) on Saturday 3/8/08 at 11 am. We'll drive for a while, have some lunch and then either drive on or head on home as is decided at the time.
I think we'll have a tough time showing him up, but no matter what we'll all have a good drive.

Not sure that I will make it! I need to be at RM tinting at 9am Saturday morning to get my windows tinted and my bulldog decal installed. I don't think that I'll make an 11:00 am start time!
I have to check with my social planner and all around boss type person before I can commit. I was going to take the stripes off this weekend in preparation for new ones at AMVIV, but there is always next weekend.

I'm starting to wonder about that "weather permitting" part. It's snowed twice in the last week, including 5 inches at my house today (near the foothills). This is making me wonder if the drive will go well.
For those of you who are interested, would you still want to go if it were a more leisurely drive? If the mountains are full of snow we can either play it careful and drive anyhow, or push it back and hope for better weather.
Thoughts?

You guys will drop me anyway so snowy roads would be a benefit.
Supposed to clear up this weekend, but the roads will probably still be covered. We only have three more weekend till AMVIV so plan accordingly.

It's hard to tell the weather will do, up until the last minute. The Pine Cam (towns near Hwy 285) can help a little: http://www.pinecam.com , maybe. I am off work Friday. I may be able to do a little recon...
I rather suspect, based on this weeks weather, that things will be wet and snowy in the hills. Looking at a number of mountain cams on the above link has confirmes the presence of snow and wet roads. I can't see all that disappearing in in 48 hours.
I'm still up for a drive, though it won't be very spirited if the roads are tricky. Thanks for the recon offer Rick, if you happen to get out that way let me know what you find. As I've said above though, I don't expect good news.

Looking again at the cams it looks like we've got mostly dry roads, but snow on the shoulders and off the street. In narrow canyons that might mean snow melt and/or ice on the roads themselves. Otherwise it looks mostly good out there.
Plans are going forward, we'll be at the lot at 11 am tomorrow. That's only 24 hours away so get ready for a drive. Don't forget your coats, incase it's cold at the hotdog stand.

It was lots of fun!! I really enjoyed having Shelly as a co-pilot!! Well, except for those times when she'd say "Hey! Did you see that??" as if I could see anything but that next turn!! LOL We really had fun!! Good thing Rick was around to make sure that I didn't get lost (again) lolol
Looking forward to seeing you guys on Tuesday!

The roads could have been a little less full of gravel, the weather could have been a little warmer, but overall it was a great drive!
Thanks for coming out, we'll see you next time!
