Hi. I'm new to this board but have had my Mini for one year now.
Last Friday I went to my dealer and tried to order a 2004 Mini Cooper
with CVT. He said he couldn't order one yet and that he would call me
when it was possible. Does that sound right? I would think that I
could place an order now and if it was built the first week of September
it would be a 2004. I want to get my order in soon so that it arrives
sooner. Also, where do you think I would get the most money from
selling my 2002 Mini Cooper (Silk Green, CVT, Packages 1 and 3, sport
wheels, fogs, tint, spoiler, 11K miles, perfect)?

If your dealer doesn't have much of a waitlist that could be entirely possible.

Hey the dealer is trying to make sure you get an '04 not a a late '03 when you were expecting an '04.

Although judging from what happened last year, not all the changes anticipated for the '04s will happen in August. Some of the '03 updates happened in Aug/Sep '02, more in late December '02, with the DVD Nav systems not showing up until March '03....

Welcome to MCO!

Just tell your dealer that you want a 2004, and to call you when ordering one becomes a possibility. Each dealer handles their order allocation and processing a bit different, so it's not as easy necessarily as going in and placing an order now figuring that it will be built in September.

If the dealer continues to balk over the next month, then it's likely that it's because he still has 2003 orders available and/or cars on the lot or in the pipeline that are unspoken for. Thus, he wants to sell those before using any of his 2004 allocation. IF YOU CAN DETERMINE that this is what's going on, then maybe you can cut a bit of a deal on a 2003...as he'll be eager to get rid of those. Not the typical situation, but certainly possible.

Let us know what happens.

Trust the dealer on this one. As stated above the model year changes don't seem to occur all at once. I have a 9/02 production 03 model MCS with features from both the 02 and 03. For example I don't have the 12 volt auxiliary socket in the boot, but I do have the winter package. I don't have the 03 pedals but I have the silver dead pedal. Go figure. From the looks of things, each MINI seems to be a "one off" of sorts.
