New in NJ :)

Helloooo fellow NJ'ers! Awaiting production of my new mini, hopefully mid march time...

I am new to NJ as well, i have been here about 3 years after moving from NYC. This will be my first car in the US! (im a brit) So i dont really know the road potential in my area for the twisty loving drivers car that is a mini

Any recommendations for a quiet driving road where i can get a little speed and turns for the engine break in? I am located in montclair, NJ.

Love these forums, tons of great info.
Cheers!

Dan

no JCW... would have been nice
BRG/Black cooper s:
  • premium pkg
  • xenon
  • LSD
  • chrome line interior
  • wood dash
  • wood wheel
  • cream colour line
  • anthracite headliner
  • arm rest
  • bluetooth/ipod
I would like to get some 17 inch wheels for the summer... are there recommended places in NJ that i can drive into, and come out driving on a nice set? (i have no access to a garage where i am)

Hey dleavy, welcome to Jersey! Unfortunately, since this is central jersey, there's not too many uncongested roads. Most of my motorcycle buds tell me that good roads that are worthwhile are up near High Point, NJ.

Drive in / drive out on wheels: Go to Eurotire on Rt 46 in Fairfield. The owner driver a Cooper S, and they have the best mounting and balancing equipment in the area.
If you have a jack, I'd go to tirerack.com and have them send you a package pre-mounted/balanced and replace at home.

Roads: Head west. Mendham, far hills, gladstone, tewksbury...much of Hunterdon county all have nice roads, and traffic, especially sunday am, is light enough.

There is a back-roads route from Highpoint to Mahway that has excellent curves aplenty. We drove it when it was brought up in this thread...

welcome aboard! as it was once said, "Go west..." Plenty of county roads like 517 and 519 in Sussex and Warren counties. The Pequanoc watershed area. Roads in West Milford. Northwest part of Morris county. Rt 24 from Mo'twon to Hackettstown. Early Saturday and Sunday mornings are your best bet to avoid the weekend rush hour. Watch the speed limit as local revenue officers like to keep the coffers in the black.

American. NJ also has parking issues... well at least I do in Montclair. There is no street parking allowed at night (temp only with a phone to the police). My apartment has a 2 year waiting list, the municipal parking is a 2 year wait as well. The private parking on the corner of my street is full. I have tried other private places through craigslist too. I have sent emails to various businesses nearby with big lots to see if they can rent me a space, but not heard back...

So im getting the mini (couple of weeks away), and have absolutely no place to put her...

That is a problem for the montclair/bloomfield area. Good luck with that! Certainly an excuse to motor all night.

+1 for Eurotire. They hand torque the lug bolts on. they do all sorts of suspension work.

Welcome. Check out http://www.nemini.org as well. A lot of NJ folks on there. You might even want to join us for the Jim Thorpe Run in June. Definitely one of the best local events you will find.
