EuroDezigns H7 Yellow [DOT Approved]

I just ordered a set of these for ~$20 on ebay. Since they are DOT approved, does that mean that I cannot get fined for these or does that mean something else? Worst thing that happens is I just use them for my high beams if I am antsy about using them...

They might be DOT approved, but I'm pretty sure that they're still technically illegal as headlights. I know lots of people that have gotten hassled for yellow headlights. You should be fine running them as yellow fogs if you wanted to do that....I think they're less picky about that.

H7 is for high beams isn't it?

If they are legal, I might jump in for a set.. since my left side high beam has been gone for a long time..

For the regular headlamps, both high and lows are H7s.

H7 is for high and low beam on my 06 R53... which is convenient in case I get pulled over.

If you get pulled over, a box isnt going to get you out of a ticket. you have to have actual documentation that says theyre legal...i seriously doubt these 8500k are actually DOT approved as well....

lets see...how does it go? "I can take a dump in a box and stamp it with a guarantee....but all your really getting is a guaranteed piece of sh*t"

Got the EuroDezigns bulbs today. They appear very high quality. They are a clear bulb with a colorful gas inside...not just yellow.

I have them in my high beams right now and as running and high beams they appear to be like a yellowish white light...Not neon or any obnoxious JDM type color. I will let you know how they look at night. Overall a pretty good value for 17 dollars.

bulbs appear to throw light a bit further...but light seems to be less sharp. overall color from car driver point of view is pretty yellow with some greenish tint in some area...very colorful

from outside, light appears to be yellowy white compared to running lights and fog lights. do i think i will be bothered by the cops with these? probably not... since the eye level of the headlights is pretty low i dont think the truest yellow parts of the bulb will be as visible
it just seems like a very yellow stock halogen

I had some EuroDezigns blue bulbs. $20 They sucked. Don't get them worse light output and were not even that blue. You get what you pay for. And when I had then running I could smell something burning so I toke them out.

actually bulbs do not cost 80 dollars to make so i dont know about you but i dont think you get what you pay for in that instance.

and how exactly did you smell "burning" while you had them running? did you smell it in the cabin?

What state are you (registered) in? I've got a lot of experience with YELLOW headlights (and fogs), where you are is the biggest factor (I know the regs for some states already).

DOT approved means it meets the federal regulations, some states adopt them directly, nearly all states make parts of the federal guidelines more stringent.

Ultimately your best bet is look up your state laws, if they allow them you're good, if they allow them in a certain capacity you're forewarned, if the disallow them, auction them off or sell them in the market place here to someone living in the appropriate area. If they are legal and you do get hassled, then you're polite to the officer and go to court cite why you're allowed them and get it dismissed.

just got these lights last night:

1. lights do appear yellow from the inside of car looking out.
2. lights do NOT put out anywhere close to original bulb output.
3. lights look barely yellow (very digny) from passerby point of view.
4. manufacturer has a money back including shipping guarantee and I will be using this option!
5. I will be going back to my original bulbs as they are MUCH better than these.

UPDATE:

OK, I think I might have to retract the review I gave for these lights. It is really wierd. If you get out of the car and stand in front approximately 10 feet away it does not look very yellow at all...a little tint but not really yellow, which is why in my first review I said it looked dingy. I drive to work this morning at 5am (so its dark) and the light output is definately different. The light is "easier" on the eyes and I think due to the color it is less "harsh" than the whiter stock bulbs which is why it does not seem as bright. The light does seem to project further than stock. Here is why I am retracting my bad review...I am driving home this afternoon and drive toward a mirrored glass store front...I could see my reflection coming toward the store...the lights were VERY VERY VERY bright and VERY VERY VERY YELLOW!!! Then while driving home, I am following my fiance. I am about 10 cars behind and she calls me on my phone. She says that my lights are VERY bright and VERY Yellow. For some reason when you stand closer to the car it light the lights are no different but as soon as you get back a little more they change dramatically!

DOT does not approve light bulbs, although these might pass the regulations on headlight color at the cost of losing visible light.

If you want facts about headlight regulations, try Daniel Stern - a recognized authority on the topic.
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/nhtsa/NHTSA.html

He will also sell you best-available bulbs for any light on the car, and you get personal consulting when buying.
