Oxygen Blue: How long will it last?

Hi all. I'm a long time viewer and a very few poster. anyways i am a proud owner of a 2006 mini cooper s hb/b auto and i absolutely love it!!! my wife has a 2006 pontiac g6 gt black on black. she had some warranty work done on her car a couple of weeks ago so i (being the great husband that i am ) let her borrow my mcsa for the day. when i got home from work with her car, i had to physically pry my cooper keys from her hands. she fell head over heals for my car. she told me now she wants a mc!! so she started looking and now she really likes the oxygen blue/white mc. i talked to an MA at the nearest dealer and he told me that mini could eventually get rid of the oxygen blue b/c they haven't sold that many. i have been looking around and i haven't seen any oxygen blues at all. i told my wife this and now she is very nervous that oxygen blue might not be available when her g6 lease is up. my question to the mini family is "what do you guys think?" will mini "retire" oxygen blue after its first full year or will they keep it around through 2009?

I think 2008 will be its second full year.

We have an Oxy Blue that is currently "scheduled for production". Our dealer said that is isn't a real popular color.

i was also told that oxygen blue isnt a very popular color. that just seems strange to me . mini is all about being different, not having the same colors as every other car manufacturer on the planet. i really hope that oxygen blue stays around, otherwise i have to hear it from my wife.

I have an Oxygen Blue Mini....and, being in a state without a Mini dealership, I called several dealerships in a wide area when I ordered my car. They all said the same thing - they don't get many Oxygen Blue Coopers in. In fact, when I ordered mine with the black roof and black bonnet stripes, it was the first of that combo that my dealership had seen. On the other hand, they all told me that people who did have Oxygen Blue loved the color. I don't think that it's not a popular color - I think it's just rare. It's only available on hard top Coopers, I think, and it's only be around since last year. In any case - congratulate your wife on her great choice of color - Oxygen Blue is great!!!

I've heard no rumors of a retirement so for now ('08) all it well. Watch closely, though because rumors will start to fly near the close of the model year (August/September). The latest info will most likely be on MotoringFile...but any news posted there will most likely make it to NAM in a matter of minutes. Seems to go that way.

This thread on color bring up a question in my mind, what % has each color captured in the 2007-2008 MINI market, any data on this?

that would be very interesting to see which colors are the top sellers and which colors are at the bottom. i see alot of cr's in my location. i would have to guess that cr, brg, and a black is close to the top. o2 blue, silk green, velvet red, and solid gold is probably close to the bottom. after i started this thread my wife is getting really, really nervous about the availability of oxygen blue. maybe i should contact mini and tell them not to retire o2 blue until feb. 2009! if any of the current o2 blue owners have any pics, please post them here. the official o2 blue thread doesnt have very many pics. i know my wife would appreciate it very much!

I have to admit, I strongly disliked O2B from just seeing it in pictures when I was preparing to go to my dealership for the first time. From looking at it on the configurator, where it seemed greatly flattered, to seeing it in random pictures here on NAM, I thought it was a terrible color. Seeing one in person though changed that view completely. It's probably not a color that I would go out and buy myself, nor would I personally opt for the O2B/W combo (looks GREAT with black!), but it really is very nice in person. I imagine the reasons it isn't a more commonly seen color are that A. it's an MC-only color, and B. there are probably lots of people who haven't seen enough in person to appreciate it. Those, and maybe some people think it would just get old after a while. A MINI, get old, right....

I would love to see a real White offered. I do not consider the Pepper White as actually white. It's more of a light Sand Beige. I think a brilliant White would look awesome.

Thanks!! (I have O2 Blue with black ) But I have to agree. I didn't like O2 Blue at all when I looked at it on the configurator but I was in love when I saw it in person....didn't even realize it was the same color as I had seen and immediately changed my mind on which color I was getting. A dealer even warned me after I changed my mind not to get concerned when no one liked it on the configurator because it just doesn't look right on there.

Yeah MiniEsq, you have a pretty sweet car. It'd be even sweeter if you blacked out the chrome

I guess I've never really been a fan of any of the lighter colors with white roofs and white bonnet stripes. The darker colors - like NFR, LiB, AB, and BRG look great with white. On the lighter colors, it just seems to clash. Now before any CR/W, LaB/W, or MY/W folks start flaming me, the previous is JUST MY OPINION. No MINI looks bad, there are just some colors that go better together than others. Now don't even get me started on SS/W! lol

MiniEsq, I could only imagine what black viper stripes or racing stripes with reverse O2B stripes on the roof would look like!

i also like the o2b/b. that is a sharp combo. my wife has spent some time building hers. she wants o2b/w with white bonnet stripes, white turn signals, and white wheels. i think that it will look good, but i cant say for sure until i see it in person.

I had no idea you could order Oxygen Blue through the dealership! I configured Nigel on MINIusa.com and sent it to the dealer and they ordered it. I love the Oxygen Blue color (better than Laser Blue). I wish I'd known, I would've ordered it! Argh!

It is a Cooper-only color, so that leaves out those motoring in an MCS.

I got a question. Is your wife dead set on 02b/w in an MC? Just asking cause she did drive your MCs. Will she be okay with the power that the MC has vs an MCs considering what she's driving now and after driving your MCs. She might want to test drive both, too, before she gets dead set on color cause maybe she fell in love with the extra oomph that the MCs had, too. Just something to keep in mind.

Oh please, please, please don't turn this into an MC versus MCS thread.
You're .

i guess i should clarify alittle. she fell in love with the car itself. i have asked her many times about which one she wants--mc or mcs--and she continues to tell me mc!!! she is not all about the hp like i am she likes the fact that the mc feels planted to the road, the quick response, the turning and cornering. she is getting very bored with her g6 gt. its a nice vehicle, it just doesnt have the "soul" of a mc.
dont worry, this is not about mc vs. mcs . i feel that we are all apart of one big family and not one person is right or wrong b/c of the mini they drive.
thank you to all that have responded. all of your responses are making my wife feel alittle more at ease.

Thanks!! I've certainly considered some other stripes...reverse stripes on the roof or maybe stripes on the boot....someone even suggested orange pin stripes on the bonnet stripes. I hadn't considered blacking out my chrome, though. I kinda like my chrome but definitely something else to think about it. I love my Mini so much the way it looks now that I don't want to make any quick decisions about doing anything to it quite yet.

Thank you, I wanted white rims instead of silver as well, however my dad was the co-signer and he didn't want white ones: His yellow MCS orginally had white rims, but they got dirty quickly. However they look awesome when they are clean, and the next MINI I get I will get the white ones
