Bad day / just got the 05 Cabrio

Hi guys...
i have been hovering arnd this fforum quite some time for inputs for the cabrio 05.....i bought a used with 32000 miles with the leather options and the premium sound system and run flat tires....
and three days getting it...i was rear ended by another car....it wasnt that bad only a bump....the rear bumper got a little scratched u cant even tell...but the problem is that my rear sensor somehow gets activated everytime i try to start the car...it goes off for 3 seconds and goes off...so i guess when the car got rear ended somehow it just activated the sensor...
is it a small fix....i have taken the guys insurance card and stuff and will take it to MINI showroom to get it fixed...but still any inputs welcome/....

and mine is also a CVT....i have heard bad things abt it....
but i like the ride quality..its a little bit bumppy but that i guess are the run flat tire...i need to change them once they r worn.......
thanks for any advice
rudy

Sorry about your mishap! I hope they can fix the problem quickly for you and you'll be back "motoring" soon!

Sorry to hear that. I, too,got rear ended while parallel parked. The damage appeared minimal until I brought it in and the estimate came in over $3000. Much of the damage was on the trunk lid itself from the lower hinge pushing it in and warping it when I opened the trunk. Luckily the other driver had left his number on my windshield and his insurance covered the cost, which amounted to $3,400 in the end.

I hope you got the other driver's info. Turn in the insurance claim first thing tomorrow morning.

When you take it into the shop, they may find some damage under the bumper cover. Not likely, but possible. Listen to dbtk's story. A small bump can amount to thousands of dollars in damages. But even if it's only $100, that's $100 you shouldn't be paying. The other driver or his insurance company should be paying it.

Rudy,
Hopefully it's just a sensor connection. My 06 MCS had license plate bolts poke holes into the rear cover when bumped at a stop. $545 ($500 deductible), and sensors were taken particular care by body shop.

thanks people...i will take it to the Dealer...i didnt have coverage on it from Statefarm...it was just added on to my list of vehicals since i just got it...but the other dudes insurance has alloted a adjuster for my car..he is going to come up and check my car...i will take the car to the dealer so that he goes thru the car to see if the "jolt" loosened anything inside the car....and yeah the sensors ned to go as it beeps on me whenever i start the car...the bumper dosent have scratches if u look at it from 5-10 feet away but there are visible breaking in the paint if u look closely....i hope its fibre they use...i will ask them to fix even that....

I was mighty pissed off at the guy..he was a local bloke....he thought there was not much damage...but anyway now i have his insurance details....

as for my other concerns i have a CVT on mine...and have gone thru enough internet details on them to find that they r not the best engineering of the Germans...well i will need another post for that...

But yeah will keep u guys tuned....

I come from motorcycle background...those forums are real good with replying...and i have been to some car forums which are dead as bat...but i am really enjoying company of u guys...great deal of info here

From: Chicago.. yes, Chicago
Good luck with that. I was rear-ended a couple of years ago.. fortunately my PDC sensors weren't effected. I know what you mean by the paint cracking.. that's probably from the bump as well. they should fix that also unless they replace the whole bumper cover.

ok here is the story of my mini being hit...

so it has been few days and the adjustor from the (Stoopid F$%# SAFE AUTO)came in and gave an estimate for just the Bumper change.

Now when i call them and say that there might be internal damage to the sensors etc, they say now i have to ask them to come check it again at Orcini's (thats the Body shop).....

I was like freaking mad at them, when the body shop guys told me safe auto is very stubborn with changes to already estimated values.

Anyway the adjustor will come again to have a look at it, hopefully write all the damages, other than that does any of u have experince abt what i am going thru..like the estimate from the adjustor to be lesser than the estimate from body shop guys?

Yes, the insurance adjuster wrote the initially estimate at $2,400, which was below the $3K that the shop indicated to me. After the 'tear down' the actual amount came to $3,400, which was written up as supplements.

Yeah, if the shop find additional damage that the insurance company didn't include in the original estimate, they write up a Supplemental Estimate and send it to the insurance company.

The insurance company will either approve it without looking at the car, or they may elect to send out an estimator to make sure the damage is related to the accident and the shop has written up the supplement correctly.

But since you are dealing with SAFE AUTO... goooooood luck... they are not known for their claim service. They are trying to be known for cheap rates (we'll see how long they survive in this business).
