Remove Cooper Badge on Boot

I've seen other do this, I want to remove the "Cooper" from the boot of my MINI. Is this very hard to do? What is it held on with? Rivets or just glue?

It's pretty easy to do. Just get yourself some good dental floss! I removed the rest of the glue residue with some Goo-gone and it came right off.

Dental Floss? Really? Nothing else like a putty knife?

Nope! All I used was regular dental floss! Start at the corner of a letter and work the floss back and forth as you slide it down. It's not difficult to do but it's not easy either because you have to work it for a while. Also, expect the floss to break a few times too. I went through quite a bit of floss and my hands were a little red afterwards but it was well worth it!

Nothing else.....things like that could easily scratch the clearcoat. I had a buddy recently who used something like a putty knife and left scratches on his new audi....not fun.

Your best bet is to get a hair dryer and some fishing line. Dental floss works as well, but it seems to snap more often. The fishing line is nice and strong and seems to cut a bit better.

Gently heat it up (not too much) with the hair dryer to soften the glue. With your fishing line, start "sawing" back and forth....you will see it working it's way through the glue. Once it's all removed you will need to work on getting rid of all the residue. Some people use goo-gone...I like to use bug+tar remover and it works well.

When my dental floss broke for the 8th time, we had thought about possibly using fishing line instead but I was almost done and didn't feel like digging out the tackle box LOL.

hahah yup...i had only gotten to the first 'O' and my dental floss had broken 5 times. Luckily I saw some fishing line laying there in the garage and decided that it would probably work better for the rest of the letters.

It should be mentioned that although the letters have no rivets, holes, or posts behind them. The MINI wings have multiple holes behind them....so don't remove those unless you're ready to have someone weld the holes closed and repaint the hatch.

The definitive NAM thread on this topic is found here (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=56177).

and not to toot my own horn, but i have documented the step-by-step process on my own blog, which can be found here (http://bushfingermini.blogspot.com/2...oval-pics.html).

+1 on the hair dryer though. I wish I'd had one available.

Hope that helps!

Yep, it's easy. It just has double sided tape behind each letter. Dental floss or fishing line works without scratching. I slide the floss between the glue and each letter. Leaving the glue on the car. It peeled off with my fingers leaving no residue. I used a heat gun to heat it up slightly before I started.

I just removed mine yesterday. Like others said, it's easy.
I had to play around with it a little bit though. Removing one letter at a time, I left "oop" and the S. My wife didn't think it was that funny, so they are all off now!

It gives the rear hatch of the car a much cleaner more balanced look. The badge is a very abrupt object on an otherwise smooth surface and it's unbalanced as the other side is very empty. The letters stick out and are rather distracting. The rear becomes much less cluttered and begins too look much cleaner when removed

2 reasons for me. First was it's much easier to wax and clean not having to use a q-tip inside and around all the individual letters. When I took mine off there was already a layer of dirt/dust stuck to the edges of the double stick holding each letter on.

Second reason was the look. The Mini is a plain looking car. It looks best without that emblem, just my opinion of course.
