Service Bulletin for the Secret Compartment??

Howdy! I'm going into Mini on Monday for a minor servicing and I asked that they unseal my secret compartment (my April '07 build came sealed shut). However, the girl on the phone didn't really seem to know what I was talking about.

Can anyone please provide me with details on the service bulletin that "fixed" the compartment/rattle issue, just in case my dealership gives me any flak about doing the fix under warranty??

Thank you!

Mine was sealedalso, but the dealer looked it up and it was on recall for that. THey don't just unseal it, they have to order you a new piece, then they install the compartment, at least that's what they did to mine. Have the service dept. look up your car to see if it's on recall, if it is, they will replace it free of charge.

Nope, instead it's where the passenger airbag lives. The R56 got a whole new interior so they designed in the cool secret compartment.

I guess I'll just have the dealership look up the recall if they play dumb about it then. Thanks!

Just tell the dealer that it is early build and want secret compartment. Not a major issue.

Just to confirm....

We all know this is totally a hoax. There's no such thing as a "secret compartment". I mean, if there was... we certainly wouldn't talk about it here now, would we?

This "secret" compartment is supposed be to used for the optional CD changer, right?

I stick my radar detector in mine, but it seems like it's almost big enough to hold a Mac Mini. That would make for an interesting mod if someone already had the big speedo mounted GPS system...

Every one knows the first rule.......

There is no secret compartment.
The second rule IS There is no secret compartment.
The third rule is if there were said secret compartment it would be a secret if everyone talked about it.
Just let it go .............the whole secret compartment is just about as real as loch ness monster, big foot, and the Mini cooper robot

My secret compartment in my R56, delivered in Jun 07, wasn't sealed and I use mine for my first aid kit.

Well DUH on me.

I took my Mini in for a tire rotation, and asked them to 'unseal' my compartment, check for the warranty bulletin, whatever.

Well, turns out my MA just had to SHOW ME how to open the stupid thing. It was unsealed already, and has been since I got it last May.

Duh.

To open: Push firmly and release quickly. The door is on a unique hinge system that opens out and then up. To close, take your fingertips and curve the door down and then inwards and push firmly to engage lock. If you don't push firmly enough it'll spring back on you.

Take a read through the Owners Manual; it'll reveal many other fascinating wonders of your MINI! The on-board computer alone takes a good half hour to learn to program your software preferences.

Cheers,
Ryan

My MA didn't show me anything when I got the car. Just handed me the keys after I signed the papers and told me to have fun.

I think mine was built in 2-07 (bought April) and mine's not sealed. Maybe yours isn't either.
