Drivetrain Dealer-offered Mods
I clipped this from a discussion on MiniTalk about Pulleys affecting warranties. Jsun wrote this interesting comment. Not wanting to go to far afield I brought it with my follow up questions over here.
>>Good question. I asked my service dealer (MINI of Peabody in MA) about this since THEY do a pulley upgrade themselves. I asked what would happen if a car that they did pulley work on ended up needing engine work.
>>
>>I did ask how MINI could rationalize the pulley part of the JCW package (that's obviously still warrantied) vs. the Randy/Helix/MINI of Peabody etc. pulley upgrade and I was told (sorry if this is repetitive) that the JCW component is a smaller pulley and an otherwise modified supercharger...so MINI feels that it's somehow safer than the other upgrades. But the service mgr also noted that at $5000 for the JCW, you could save money by simply buying a whole new MINI engine in the unlikely event that your "unauthorized" pulley damaged something engine-wise.
>>
>>
Is it me or does it seem like some dealerships are taking either a very soft sell approach to the Works package or actually try to move other products in places of it?
Another question? Peabody is offering their own performance packages and I know Mni of Sterling offers a package of their own. How many other dealers across MiniLand are offering these types of packages?

From Christal @ MINI of Sterling:
"We will warranty any of the performance items we install on the "SX" package.
These items are: CAI, EVOtech ECU, Pulley, Your choice of Borla Super Sport
Exhaust or Sport Exhaust. The price of these items installed as a package is
$3500."
