R50/53 One ball mod
Not real exciting to look at. There are some before and after photos in my blog post here.

The DIY version using MinSpeed's resonator delete pipe. Remove the exhaust, over-lay the pipe and make your marks.

Cut using a hacksaw or pipe cutter.

Install pipe.

Line it all up on the vehicle and tighten the clamps.

Any one ball does...
that's the mod itself. There's a review in the reviews section, and tons of posts all over the place. It's one of the early low cost mods, and well worth the effort.

Just sort of a pain for those of us that want to easily return to stock.
If you choose to return to stock, one 2.25 inch O.D., and one 2.5 inch O.D. coupler will enable re-fitment of the components. http://stores.channeladvisor.com/ver...orts/Items/tbs?

BTW, Dr Obnxs, I was flipping through a Mini magazine at my local dealership and saw an interview with you! What a small world.
It's a good, easy mod. Not too loud, hardly noticable at cruising speeds, but sounds a little louder when accelerating. When I did mine I just dropped the back end, and got a tool from Autozone to cut the pipes. It's called a "tailpipe cutter", and it's free, just have to leave a deposit. I went with the Minspeed pipe, tried some local muffler shops, but they wanted $100-$150, and it was a bunch of kids working at both shops. I just felt more comfortable doing it myself, knowing it would be done right.
I write for them...

One Ball exhaust
Hi there...
So I decided to do the "One Ball" exhaust modification today. I paid $75 dollars for the whole work. They took about 45min doing it.
It feels great! The sound is just perfect! Not too loud, but still aggressive when accelerating. You won't notice any difference at cruise speeds. The only thing I've noticed is that it gives you a little more vibration at minimum RPMs (800-1000), but nothing serious.
I also wanted to adapt an oval exhaust tip on the OEM exhaust, but it was a lot of work (cut & weld), so I prefer to research and see if I can find one that fits perfectly just with screws. If anybody knows where can I find a nice (5"-6" wide) oval exhaust tip for MCS R53, please let me know.
Here are some pics of the One Ball modification.

One Ball
Oddly enough, and surely it shouldn't have made any difference, but I lost about2 mpg in town and 1 mpg on the road with the one ball...it was a bit throatier, but I never felt like I gained enough out of it to keep it so I had it returned to stock...I have a friend who is in the exhaust business, so the cost was nominal. I am looking at Strebro exhausts but haven't made any firm decisions yet.
The one ball is not for those minimal HP gains that you would get from a cat-back. It is mainly about weight and sound.
PAIPUKY, it looks like they didn't bell-out both ends of the cross over pipe. It looks like they really reduced the interior size.

However, I love the sound.
They had a dyno chart somewhere around here.
Does it make any difference if the other end is not bell-out?
Thanks
