I did this too, though mine is a bit unique. Before I had a full 2.5, catless exhaust. I got sick of not being able to hear or talk to passengers. I was going to put the full stock exhaust back on including cat but then went with a hybrid type setup. I retained the full 2.5" midpipe and still don't have cat, instead there is a resonator there. Then when to the one ball muffler setup. The whole system is 2.5". and I didn't need to buy an inch of new pipe since I was able to adapt my old to the new.

Now I have a low growl off idle and after that it's pretty much silent over my alta intake and 19% pulley.

PAIPUKY, it looks like they didn't bell-out both ends of the cross over pipe. It looks like they really reduced the interior size.

Backpressure testing of the one-ball showed better results than some catbacks: https://www.northamericanmotoring.com...23&postcount=9

What would be great...

is if there were HP, torque and back pressure graphs vs RPM for all those set-ups. As it is, it's nice info to have but BP alone doesn't mean much for power....

I am looking at Strebro exhausts but haven't made any firm decisions yet.
I don't know why, but I am having the same issue... I have lost like 1-2 MPG... I cannot understand why, but it is happening and it sucks with todays' gas prices!
Does anybody knows why this could be happening? May I need to re-tune the ECU?

Thanks

New OVAL exhaust tip Mini S R53 One ball exhaust mod

So I finally found the Oval Exhaust tip I wanted!!

*Oval exhaust tip from www.Mufflermall.com - $23 http://www.mufflermall.com/index.php...6&currency=USD
*Cut and moldings - My Dad and neighbor's help - About 5 hours since we didn't have the right tools... lol
*Welding at local shop - $35
*Getting the Exhaust look and sound you always wanted for less than $150.... PRICELESS! hahahaha...

Here are some pics of the installation.

It feels great! The sound is just perfect! Not too loud, but still aggressive when accelerating. You won't notice any difference at cruise speeds. The only thing I've noticed is that it gives you a little more vibration at minimum RPMs (800-1000), but nothing serious.
I also wanted to adapt an oval exhaust tip on the OEM exhaust, but it was a lot of work (cut & weld), so I prefer to research and see if I can find one that fits perfectly just with screws. If anybody knows where can I find a nice (5"-6" wide) oval exhaust tip for MCS R53, please let me know.

Thanks!
The best part is that it cost me like $700 less or more...
Thanks God my dad is very creative, he used to build and race his own cars, so he told me and helped me to do it. Nice! =)

That looks SWEET - I'm planning the same mod but without the one-ball to start, may go one-ball if I can drive a one-ball car to check the sound. I do a bunch of highway and any additional drone would kill me.

The one ball isn't that loud. You won't notice the difference on highway, but it is nice at high rpms. If planning to do it, make sure you get all the right tools. Stainless steel is EXTREMELY HARD to cut!
PM if need more info.

Thanks paipuky, appreciate the offer! I'd likely have the local muffler shop do it as I don't want to have a bad experience with a Sawzall under my car, and they're pretty good at what they do! A definite case where paying an expert will be cheaper than doing it myself.

Well that is the reason I tried to do it myself. A muffler shop will charge you $150-250 just for cutting and welding the tip.
If you do not want to do it yourself, I'd suggest you to buy the tip, muffler and pipes separated and get them just to install it. You should pay like $300 for the whole thing. Check www.altaminiperformance.com , you can custom make something like their catback for R53.

^ I think it looks a little out-of-place on the Scion -- needs a valence, rear diffuser or something to the sides.

Yeah I know, I think the same... But well, he liked it... I would be great if he find a valance for that. The car comes with a right side exhaust. TRD version comes with a right/rear semi oval tip...
anyway, I love my Oval tip! =)
