Info for Charity Event this summer
Info for Charity Event this summer
Ok, I was in contact with the Ronald McDonald House here in Iowa City, Sounds like if we want to get contributions to each area RMHC that we are visiting we will need to get checks or whatever made out to each group. So we'll need to see if the Wisconsin Madison area group is interested and also see if the Chicago group is interested too so we can try and collaborate with them on which RMHC they want to donate too. I created a post on the Eastern Iowa MINIs site about the event. If you have any businesses in mind that you think would be interested in donating please let me know. I'd like to start working on rounding up funding soon so we can make this as successful as possible.
I also wanted to see if you all were interested in assembling an entry fee to the ride so the EIM group as a whole can make a donation in our name (or you can make them individually so you can write it off) In any case we will discuss this more as the spring comes along and we get some better weather and some more meets going on!
Thank you everyone, I hope you are all interested in the event. Please tell all your motoring friends to come one come all and be ready to have some fun!

HR, thanks for doing the initial legwork on this.
I think part of the initial contacts you make with the other groups should include narrowing down candidate dates (they will need to deconflict their own club schedules), and formulating a general itinerary for the event. It might be hard to get potential donors to commit funds to the cause when they have only a vague idea when and where the supporting event will take place or what its scope will be.
Also, as an alternative idea to an entry fee we might ask for voluntary entry donations and advertise a suggested amount. This approach might be viewed as a bit more inviting and could also encourage a few folks to give larger gifts. I, for one, would certainly be willing to contribute.
Once the details gel, we could also consider writing a generic solicitation letter suitable for use by folks to forward to targeted business donors.

Sounds great. I'm working on finding some contacts for the different groups, Ill be getting in touch with Dustin from the CMMC and need to find contacts to the Madison group, I think Brian knows them so we'll see if he can chime in with that info. Once we have dates set and such it should be much easier to finish the rest out
I am working on flyers for distribution so hopefully when we have dates and such those will help spread the word.

Oh I'm sure Ill need some help as things come closer to being finalized.
So can get a weigh in on dates that work and dont work for people?
Just a few random dates:
June 14th, 15th
July 12th,13th or 19th, 20th
Let me know if any of those dates work. I thought maybe early mid June might work well, people haven't taken off for summer vacations yet.

MITM is 6-10 August. This national event would be a serious drain on potential participants in the region (possibly including me). I recommend avoiding your suggested August dates for this reason.

Ok, well this even has been a little on my back burner as more and more things have piled into my summer. My summer is almost completely packed weekend to weekend with weddings and other events, so I've had to go ahead and choose a weekend that I think will work for me and hopefully everyone else.
I have not recieved any response from the Madison, Milwaukee or Chicago MINI groups at this point, so this is going to be an all Iowa participants event I guess. And this year may not even work as I haven't heard back from the Dealers I've contacted either. So who know, I guess a charity event isn't what most people are interested in. In any case Charity or not, we can still make a fun drive of it.
Ok all that aside. I am hoping that this weekend works for everyone to get together and take a nice long drive from Iowa City up to Milwaukee and end in Chicago for some tasty Pizza possibly.
I believe the weekend as of right now will be June 7th 8th. I will let you know if anything changes but as of now below is the route map, and if we can get ahold of the Milwaukee and Madison and Chicago groups maybe they'll be interested in joining us at some point.

I haven't had any real support from anyone I've contacted about raising money, so at this point I am fairly sure it's going to be a bust on fund raising and this to simply evolve into a weekend getaway drive.
So I may just start a new thread and change this to a group weekend fun drive.
