JCW or Miltek Exhaust on MCS Convertible???
I'm just getting ready to start w/ the mods on my 2005 MCS Conv. I was planing on going w/ a Miltek exhaust, but I've found a used JCW exhaust. Any thoughts? Is it worth the extra $600 bucks to upgrade to the Miltek??
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
Milltek offers a slighty better sound and slighty more performance. I bought a jcw off of a friend who had switched to Milltek (he had it on his 03 and wanted the same exhuast on his 06) Is a few hp worth $600 to you?
I have had the JCW and it is nice and quiet, nut I prefer my Alta exhuast as it has a meaner sound.

It would be useful to know how far you think you are going to mod. With a pulley and CAI I wouldn't think the difference would be that great, but the difference increases after you get a head. By the way, with the Miltek think about getting the TSW cross brace instead of the M7 understrut system. The sound is a personal choice and even more important with the top down.
I have a 06 GP which came with the JCW exhaust. I thought it was too quite. I removed the resonator and it was too snip/crackle/pop. I tried a Borla Sport and it was too loud inside the GP (not much rear sound insulation). I installed the Miltek cat-back and it is about right. Louder than the JCW but not too loud to create a drone inside the car while cruising.
I would like to know where you can get a Milltek exhaust for $600? It seems they are $900-1000 most places now with the declining value of the dollar.

I have the JCW exhaust on my 05 MCSC. I love it. It is not overbearing when just cruising along but lets everyone know you are there when you put your foot into it. I don't think you will go wrong with getting the JCW exhaust. Plus you can save a few bucks for some other mods!

If I had to do it all over again, I would go with the One Ball and replace the stock resonator with something less restrictive as some others have done and cheaper.
Sorry, to digress, but you're asking about the Milltek and JCW not what I would do differently.

The JCW is quieter than the Milltek for sure, and being you are in a convertible you are going to be more aware of the sound. Save the $600 extra and go with the JCW, should be better for resale too. When I drive without my cargo cover and seats down I find the Milltek a little too loud, but hen again I'm an old fart @ 45.
What he's saying is it would cost him an EXTRA $600 for the Milltek over the price he can buy the (used?) JCW for. ie: used JCW= $300-$400 + $600 for the Milltek new = $900-$1,000

THANKS FOR THE INPUT
I decided to pass on the JCW. I wanted something w/ a little more sound & the JCW had 20K miles on it. My local shop in Alexandria, Va wants me to gor w/ the Borla Street. Hope to find a Miltek local to hear. I want something w/ a nice sound, but not like a Honda Civic.
Thanks agan.
Thanks agan.
All this talk of which exhaust sounds better and which one produces more horse power got me thinking
...
Wouldn't it be great if someone with a good quality sound recorder came out to the Dragon (MOTD) this year and recorded the sound of all the different exhaust systems?
Then you could put all the sound files on this site and choose which pipes you want based on which one sounds best to you.
Just an idea and yes I know this idea should be on the MOTD thread if I really want someone to come through with it.

I haven't seen any mods add to the resale value of any MINIS. Your MINI will be worth more in the long run unmodded as are most vehicles. However, it sure is a lot of fun modding our MINIS just the way WE want them.
The only regret I have with any of my mods is the combination of the Milltek exhaust and the M7 UCC. Rattle, Rattle, Rattle. The M7 was never designed to work with the Cabrio Milltek exhaust.

All kidding aside for just a moment.. Does the exhaust pipe come to a center point or does it go off to the right?
it comes to a center point
sO?
For the convertible the exhaust should have a compressed/crimped section of pipe before the "Y" split going to the rear mufflers. The JCW exhaust that came on my 2006 GP had the convertible crimp. However, depending on where you obtained the exhaust it might not have the crimped section.
