carrying a road bike in the MINI

Anyone ever carry a road bike >inside< their Mini? I ask because I'm planning on riding about 40 miles with my bud to pick up my new Mini from the dealer in a few months, and wanted to see if it was feasible.

Plan is to get a tarp (to protect the interior) when we get there, and of course take off the wheels. Think two bikes will fit in there?

Of course, if it is impossible we'll drive, but riding would be more fun/adventurous/cheaper. (There is a somewhat pricy ferry ride involved...)

yes

No problem. Taking off both wheels, my road bike fit just fine in the back of my friend's R53. Haven't done it yet in my car. I would suggest a nice soft blanket to lay on top the first frame, then lay the second on top of that. Then, place the wheels in.

Before we had the roof rack installed, we fit 2 bikes in the back. Like the previous posts, if you take the front wheel off, no problem.

Can the bikes fit upright with the front wheels off? I'm wondering if a floor mounted (on a piece of plywood) fork clamp would work?

No, even a tiny frame like mine (50cm) in compact geometry will not. There is the remote possiblilty if you folded the passenger seat forward, removed seat/seat post and loosened and turned the handlebars. Still doubt that would work.

Not necessarily helpful, but when we met the last owner to test drive our MCSc, there were two guys there about to start a bike ride. They had their two complete bikes, front wheels removed, in the back of an '05 MCS. The driver told me that he transports two bikes in it all the time.

Check out my gallery

The pictures are from the day I brought my MINI home. I also went to pick it up on my bicycle. I had the dealer install the roof and bike racks. Glad I did cause those things are complicated!
