R50/53 Easy JCW shift knob install
Easy JCW shift **** install
An easy modification. (but expensive)
I put the original gear shift in second gear and pulled up, with not really any strength at all and presto the old **** is off.
The JCW comes with a small plastic "adapter" that i didn't need as i just put the JCW on and slid it down the shaft and it popped on with a 1/4 the pressure it took to remove the old one. it feels very secure and is not loose at all. i am thinking the plastic is used for the boot but i really not sure whats it for, it didn't come with any directions.
i didn't fall in love with it at first as i just wanted to get something that wasn't going to freeze my hand, and that was easy to install. But now after 5 days of driving with it i am very happy with the purchase. (plus no cold hand)
cons
it seems like it could easily be stolen as there is nothing securing it on. I would of preferred one that didn't have any logo.
i have the leather version installed on a 5 speed 2002 mini.
ps Since it is a JCW i am sure i picked up at least 5 hp. i will let u know what the dyno says.

The **** doesn't fit as tightly as the original, and the plastic clip should be put on to keep the **** from sliding off. If you look at the **** and clip, you should be able to see how they go together
The two piece plastic clip, first install the 3/4 piece on the shaft with the open area facing aft, then slide the small piece up into the grooves of the first, then the whole thing snaps into the bottom of the shift ****. It will help the shift **** from coming off during spirited shifting. Boot remains below the clip.
bump... my jcw **** seems loser then it should be? Is it normal to not be as tight as the OEM ****?
