Daily Driver - MCS OR MC ?

Hey everyone!

I currently own a 2006 MC, which is my daily driver as well as my fun car on the weekends Since I drive 50 miles a day back and forth to work), I LOVE the mpg!!

BUT, recently I've been drawn to the new models more and more...I'm thinking about getting a bare-bones 2008-09 MCS to replace, since the gas consumption seems to be 'about' as good as my '06's is.

Here's my question: All of you out there with a MCS, how many of you use it as your daily driver and if you are ABLE to drive it conservatively, what mpg do you average on the highway? And what is your cruising speed?

I know what they 'claim' the MCS to get...but what are the REAL numbers?

**Scroll Down for MC-related questions **

My '07 MCS Manual is my daily driver. My daily commute for work is about 50 miles with half highway. Most of my fun driving is NOT on the highway. According to the on-board computer I'm averaging ~31 mpg.

My '07 MCSa is my daily driver. On the highways I get 30-32MPG with the cruise control set on 63-68mph. You could probably do better without the cruise control as it can be semi-aggressive with the throttle, but then my speeds would be significantly higher. Trust me, I've tried.

my MCSa mileage has dropped about 2 mpg since adding the JCW kit but still better than my 04 Cooper CVT. Running about 27 right now.

I am sure I could do better if I used the cruise control and worse when discipline loses out to its new found ability to love the high end of the tach.

Silversmith is my daily driver and I drive about 30 miles a day, mostly traffic lights, but pretty good flowing, light to medium traffic. I live near several interstates that I hop onto for short jaunts. I get around 28 -30. I recently took a trip down to the coast and a 450 mile round trip. When I returned, there were still 2 lights left before the gas pump icon lighted.

The computer said it had about 45 miles till empty (I never trust this) and filled up with around 12 gallons up to the intake opening. This trip was probably around 73 mph with the cruise control on the whole way and the tach said ~3200 rpm's Prolly could have done better at 63 -68 or so.

yeah its a great daily driver, but you'll need the cruise control because no speed seems fast. I dont have problems driving conservative in the commute with traffic, its a bit harder on the open road. In the summer it gets high 32s and in the winter its in the low 31s. The engine is pretty sensitive with outside temperature since it likes to run really hot. Im always amazed at how well the car deals with the bumps for how good it handles, but this is my first German car. Its a perfect daily driver weekend auto crosser.

Molly is my only vehicle:
7 miles to work @ 60 mph 2-lane
100 miles weekends @ 70 4-lane
Occasional bursts a little faster
32 - 33 mpg, actual

I have a very agressive right foot, frequently coming close to red line. I am truly amazed that I average 31mpg which is combined highway and city driving. I drive on average 400-500 miles a week. I have an '07 MCS totally stock.

I have a late '07 MCS (manual). I have a 15 mile one-way commute; about half on surface streets with the rest on fairly packed freeway (So. CA - go figure). I'm not a very agressive driver and am getting 32mpg.

'07 MCS manual is my daily driver. Very easy to drive 'conservatively', but even that is still fun. I can't seem to keep my foot out of it so I don't have a tankful of just behaving-type driving, but a mix of city and highway, moderate and spirited driving so far has averaged around 30 mpg over the first 4 tanks. A MCS won't get quite the mileage as the MC, but it's still better than most of the other stuff on the road, and a whole lot more fun.

Wow I must drive really conservative or something. My MCS manual is my daily driver and I get 35 mixed. My daily is commute is 5 miles each way (2 highway and 3 city) I ocassionally drive 2 hours for work all highway and I get 38-41 going around 74-77mph. I must admit I never use the sport button though. I do however step on it getting on and off the higway and average 7mph over the speed limit. I use premium gas and also always use cruise on the highway.

Yes, we were just discussing this this morning...a friend (and long time MINI-owner) said he was consistently able to get around 35 mpg out of his daily driver R56 MCS. Only guy I know who has owned an R50, R53, R53-JCW, and now R56 MCS). The discussion related to his potential move to a Clubman.

Hmm...So it appears that there really isn't any trouble getting at least 31mpg...

Now I guess the question is:

Those of you with a Daily Driver that is 'justacooper' what type of milage are you able to obtain?

My MCS is my only vehicle, and I live 5 miles from work - which I basically consider city driving, even though the only road up there is a commuter highway. With this sort of mixed driving, I get about 30mpg. Driven conservatively on the freeway, I get upwards of 38mpg. Austin is very hilly, too, so if it were flat, it might even be better than that!

I don't commute, except to my living room, but when I drive my MCS it's either locally, or for fun . I get an average of 33 and change (maybe she thinks she's a record?), regardless of the type of driving and speeds. I took a long trip this past fall and still got the same mpg, but I was really moving. Won't say how fast, but the troopers would have been happy to see me...

All mileages are calculated, not OBC, and I have a 6-speed.

MC

I drive 25 miles each way to work(mixed). I am getting 38 MPG but I have been known to get lower, depending on how stressful a day.

So, if the day is stressful, do you press the Sport button?

I drive my mcs with the sport button modded to stay on all the time that's just the way I like it, however, this should not make any difference in hwy mileage, last summer the best I did on the hwy was about 40mpg.

My commute is short but with city driving I get around 30 - 31 mpg. On the highway during a one hour trip it averaged 33mpg. Though I don't push it hard I'm also not just driving 60 the whole way. It was varying between 65 and 85. Given the car's overall performance (compared to almost anything else approaching this level of economy) I'm pretty happy with these numbers.

In my Just A Cooper I get about 37-38 mixed. Occasionally a little lower when a lot of in town errands are run. On the open freeway i've topped 42 mpg with the cruise on 70.

Dang, this is tough...

MC = AMAZING mpg
MCS = Good mpg and ease of leaving 'rednecksinamonstertruck' in the dust

Those of you with a 07-08 MC, did you have a 02-06 MC prior to this car? How has performance increased,
does sport make her take off the line faster, pull harder at lower rpms

Either way, it looks like I will have to take a trip to the dealer and do some LONG test drives That and see how much money I could save a year between the two...

BTW: thanks for all the input thus far!

Stressful

Usually if i am stressed i begin to think all other drivers have no idea what they are doing, and I quickly lose patience with them, and start passing like mad. I am not condoning this behavior, but sometimes when I put my blinker on, I really do have to get over, and you in your stupid huge suv need to get out of my tiny blind spot. grr.

I reset the computer about 6 weeks ago on my '07 MCS. It claims that I am getting about 33 mpg. I have a 70 mile round trip to work - all highway and the incidental miles at the weekend.
