Has anyone checked out one of those $8.50 chips on Ebay?

I bought one and though it comes with a "how it works" explanation, it doesn't specify which wires to tap it into on the Mini. The idea is sound- it modifies info from the air intake temp sensor so it will go into a more aggressive ignition curve. I know first hand that this tuning done right adds power and responsiveness. The instructions say that you tap into the two wires that send temp info to the computer, but the Mini has four wires. Which ones do what? By the way, for your money you get wire connectors and a resistor attached to a fuse that hopefully give optimal amp/voltage to the computer. If you don't like the result, you haven't damaged anything- just take it back out. My car runs best when it's cool outside. Maybe that's what signal it sends. Help me figure the two wires and I'll let you know if it's $8.50 well spent! -Jeffy.
cant tell you what two wires your looking for, but one of my friends fell for this a few years ago (he was 16 or 17). all he got for his money was literally just a resistor in an envelope with a three step instruction sheet. and it didnt work.
your ecu reads the air temp and response with the proper amount of fuel. if you trick it... you will only end up running rich. just throw it away.

Your Mini runs better in cold weather because cold air is denser thus giving the motor the ability to burn more fuel, making more HP. As he said anything that tricks the ECU into giving the car more fuel when there is not enough oxygen to burn it, will create a rich burn which at the very least = less HP...
Listen to blue bomber and minimarks: lose that thing ASAP. Electronic gadgets can't change physics. You'll run rich, foul your plugs, wash oil from your cylinder walls, and cause a snarky looking black smudge on your tailpipe.
Oh, yeah, your gas mileage goes in the toilet.

So I guess none of you has any kind of chip in his car at all... Or, you do but don't know what it does. If you do know, tell me and prove how smart you are. By the way, I said ignition curve, not fuel curve. If anyone has anything USEFUL to say in answer to my question, I'd appreciate it. -Jeffy.

prove to us it does work. if you have anything USEFUL to show us, we'd all love to see it. don't forget to buy your turbonator, your platinum injection kit, your muffler bearings while you're at it
if you think it does work then more power to you, but remember, if its something as good as this, why doesn't race cars use this stuff?
if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is

I do have a turbonator and some of the other tricks you mentioned, but more importantly, some you didn't. I didn't even have to buy them, but I'll outrun your car with mine. Yes, for money. For anyone else out there, I'm actually looking to find out about the two wires that send intake charge info to the computer. I love you anyway, Turbonator. -Jeffy.

it appears you're driving a Cooper with CVT. I hear they're quick
anybody else know how to install that gizmo Amazon sells for $9? You know, the one.

this just has to be a joke. hes pulling our legs. no one admits to owning a turbonator! wow, were easy to get going. geez, wowzers etc, etc...
at least i hope your kidding.
chips are useful and do work. but theres quite a bit of research and development that goes into making one for every individual car out there.
think about how much effort was put into tunning the car from the factory. if it was just as easy as adding a resistor to the tps to up the power why wouldnt they have done it? seems pretty cost effective to me... and as stated earlier, its to good to be true.

Once again, there are 4 wires...
Two have to be power to the sensing hot wire, two for sending temp info back to the computer... Does anyone know which ones do what? As for the "S" driver who I challenged to race(without knowing an "S" driver was reading non-S Cooper threads), I'd still love to race your admittedly nice, high dollar car- with my bike! Box stock it ran low 10s in the quarter and is geared for 165mph. I have performance mods to it, also. Have you ever seen someone in a street car try to race a liter-class sport bike? It's really funny. Now I'm through trading barbs. I'm looking for somebody to help with a tech question. If you help me out I will be very grateful for your time. -love, Jeffy.
Instead of trading barbs why don't you do a little research on the MINI and see if this will actually do anything. You will find that it is just as effective as the turbonator is..............which is not at all.
just because you're stupid enough to believe an $8.50 resistor can outsmart a German engineer doesn't mean I should follow your leadwith a turbonator on my car, how could I lose??
ever seen a liter-class turbonated sport bike race the space shuttle? it's even funnier
jeffy,
your coming off as a pissed off teenager. its ok to not know everything. we've all been scammed at least once. i know i was hit a couple times on ebay also. dont get so defensive. learn to laugh at the trivial mistakes you make because there will most definitely be more.
but i still say toss it in the garbage
