Spousal Color Battle

It's shaping up to be a colossal death match between the forces of color and blandness...

I like Lightning Blue, and my wife strongly prefers Pure Silver.

Me on both counts, really... though of course all our money is "ours."

She claims it's really for me that she wants me to get the silver, since it will hide the distressing little inevitable nicks, chips and scratches better over the long haul. She's right in that regard, but I still like blue better.

She's still happy with her Bimmer 3er wagon for now. But I'm sure she wouldn't mind some new jewelry too.

Then I'd have to pay to expand the garage too. Soon enough, we're talking real money.

BLUE

Blue for sure...silver is EVERYWHERE. The blue in the brochure is HOT in person

I think it will be a quicker sell come selling time.

Silver

Blue

Well good news is the MINI looks great in any of the factory colors! Can't say that for many other cars out there...

I'd definitely go Lightning Blue, pretty unique color. Pure Silver isn't overly common on the MINI, but is a color you see on so many cars in general. It's a very subjective matter. I just really prefer LiB over PS aesthetically as well.

Oh I LIKE the way you think!!

Here's an arguement in favor of blue: gray cars just disappear in the fog, and will be much more prone to getting hit. Your wife doesn't want you to be a sitting duck for an accident right? Doesn't she love you? And want to keep you safe???

(BTW- I don't know if it's true or not, about the accidents in the fog, but I will happily make up facts to support my opinion!)

How 'bout a 1/2 and 1/2 paint job--your side is blue, and her side is silver. Then all you have to worry about is WHICH side is which.

I'd agree with the blue. There are entirely too many silver cars on the road these days. (Including ours.)

Another thought--find a completely different color that you can both agree on.

I think she's right....whether w/ the black MCS grill or Cooper chrome, Pure Silver looks extremely classy on a MINI.

disclaimer...I had an Indi Blue MINI and between Lightening Blue and Hyper Blue which followed it, I am personally over the dark blue shades.

Not with MINIs. If you look at the photos posted here, it seems that blue is the most common color.

I think it will be a quicker sell come selling time.
I very much doubt that. Silver ages well.

What about a compromise? Get silver, but with some interesting stripes.

Thanks for all the entertaining and insightful replies. We've been lobbying each other all night, to the point where we're almost ready to each do a 180 and start arguing the other way.

We're going to go look up close and personal again in the daylight tomorrow, and hopefully reach consensus.

+1, again the MINI looks great in any color, so maybe you both can compromise best by going with something completely different.

Unfortunately silver roofs aren't available for the R56. R55 gets silver and we get white. I know you could get a Purple Haze R53 with silver roof and mirrors. Very sharp. Cost of doing it after the fact would most likely be ridiculous.

That's something I have recognized as well. Although silver is very common on vehicles in general, it's not so much for the MINI. Blue (LB over LiB, however) then red, seems to be the most popular. Perhaps DS as well but certainly not PS. If anything I'd call it an 'underrated' color of sorts.

Gorgeous MINI, btw, Robin.

That's definitely your best bet. Good luck and post back on the outcome!

A happy wife = a happy life. Concede to her. It's just a colour, otherwise, she'll blame you for anything bad that happens to the lightning blue.

Can you get a silver roof with the 2008? It was discontinued for 2007 (unless you got the silver body )
