2008 MCSa delivered
I just picked up my MCSa and wanted to answer some questions I've seen from others about the '08s.
Auto UP drivers window? check. The window finally goes up on it's own.
USB? check. The dealer even gave me the usb/3.5mm <-> iPod cable. I've not tried it out yet.
Auto wipers? yes, its the button on the stick.
Were there other questions?
Impressions:
The sport suspension is lively!
I'm glad I got it.

I'm glad I got it.Was the USB connection - standard or part of an option you picked?
Thanks.
It was part of the Convenience Package which included "Comfort Bluetooth and USB/iPod"
I believe the Bluetooth option can be ordered on it's own and is what is needed for the USB port to magically appear.

I'm pretty sure the cable will be included at no charge whenever you get the comfort bluetooth option.

Those are just some quick shots. I'll get some better ones this weekend now that the manuals are read.
And yes.. if you can figure out how to pull firmware off the ECU you are welcome to have it!

Awesome car,
And thanks for posting the info on USB/auto rollup. My mini should be here in a few weeks, and those where the the questions i have had.
Have you tried the ipod through the usb? Can you change songs using the Steering wheel? Or does the usb just supply power to the ipod?
Thanks
BTW I love the red color line inside the car.

I don't have nav so I only get 2 lines of display on the radio. The function **** on the radio lets me select artist/title/etc, press button select album, press button it plays song. I'm guessing I can select songs via the MFSW but didn't think to try it while parked :( Not sure how you'd go back up the menu tree however. Guess I need to start building some play lists. I'll let you know.

Congratulations on your 08. Are some of the options a software upgrade or hard parts of the 08. Wondering about the auto-up?
Pictures of your MCSa, would be great.
Ah, saw you link, your MINI looks mighty fine. Well done!!!

Congrats!
Question: When playing a song on your iPod via the USB connection, if you turn off the car, does the iPod automatically pause, allowing you to resume where you left off when restarting the car?

The manual says it does but it also gives you a procedure to disable it in case the weight of snow/ice is causing the protection to kick in. The procedure is basically "hold the toggle up until the window goes up".
Tom,
This is an email from Rick Steinberg, head of MINI after market in response to me asking about the 2007 software updates to do the one touch up window:
"Not such a good idea. The '08 has anti-trap, which is why we can offer it, whereas the '07 does not have that feature."
I guess this means that you can't do the one touch up, or at least it is not advisable.
Question on the USB... Have you tried a flash memory stick for music? If so, does the radio recognize the folders and such like an I-pod? According to http://www.mini.com/com/en/usb_pdf/_...nfo_usb_en.pdf
it should play off of a flash memory stick. If this is the case, there is no need to leave an $$ Ipod in the car, or have to connect and reconnect it all of the time. The .pdf says not to use a powered hard drive storage device (but so is an Ipod classic?), but I have heard some people have successfully used external hard drives on non-US spec MINIs.... maybe not a good idea considering power demands or vibration... I am considering the BT/USB option, but am not too fond the woes of the limited connectivity bluetooth.
