R56 2008 MCSa delivered
Hi, I wanted to circle around and answer some of the questions that were asked while I've been motoring.
I ordered on Nov. 24th so thats just less then ~6 weeks? It actually arrived at the dealer on the 27th but because of the holidays they couldn't get it completed for delivery until the 1st. I think thats right quick of a delivery and I'm overly impressed with this dealer.
USB Flash memory - I actually don't have a stick/thumbdrive and all my "mp3s" are actually in AAC format which I'm told the system won't play. So, I've not tried this yet. I will get to it eventually but from other posts I understand it to work fine and display folders and song name.
iPod - When you turn the car back on the iPod starts playing right from where you left off. The only problem seems to be that random doesn't always stay on so you have to re-random.
USB HDD - I think the general consensus on this one is that the iPod contains a battery. The HDD in the iPod is powered by the battery and when the voltage requirements spike in order to spin-up the drive then it is the battery that takes a hit. The charging circuit maintains constant voltage for charging off the USB. With a USB HDD there is no battery so the power requirements would fluctuate radically (well, as radically as 5v can) depending on what the drive is doing. It is proper for MINI to warn against using an HDD if the USB was not designed to handle the power requirements.
