Just curious if the 2002 MINI is considered a Limited Production Car? I would be happy to hear from anyone regarding the residual value of the car over time. I know that it is not truly known at this time, but was wanting insite.

Thanks
Steve

sbritt,
Welcome to the site..... I think you will enjoy.

I think production #'s are set at 20k US bound this year. Based on this figure I would say no. Could be wrong. I'm not sure what is considered limited though.

No matter what, the production isn't meeting demand at this time. There have been talks about bumping production and just recently there was a bump in jobs of about 4500 employees in several MINI related plants.

Hope this helps.
Also if you have any comments on the site please post them in our "site feedback" forum.

Hello sbritt,

I can't speak for the US, but here in Canada, the first 500 MINIs were limited edition. You even had the # of your MINI in one of the meters.

As far as I know, there are in Mexico only 11 dealers, and the first units that came out to the streets are equiped so strange, like all of you know there are 3 levels of Mini in the non S and the S edition, so the equipment for this units have no sense if you compared with the regular packages offered by the dealer over the catalog.
An example of this is the a-c, most of this units it came with the electronic a-c
I have a friend who have a ´´ Salt ´´ Mini with leather, electronic a-c, 16' wheels and tires, cruise control + radio controls on the steering wheel, sunroof, trip computer, asc, Xenon lights.
As I understand only 11 Mini S was offered to the public on the opening day on the whole country.

Yes, 2002 US Mini's are definately a limited production year, but only because of the time frame. Mini's went on sale in the US on April lst 2002 and 2002 yearplate production is almost over. By the end of July or early August 2003 Mini's will be rolling into this country. A 3 and a half to 4 month production run is definately a 'limited' one in my book.

If the 2002 Mini is limited, then is it true that the value will double a few years down the road?

I don't think the value will double or go up......

take for instance the new beetle.......

the 98' 99' years stayed in good residual range.........

i have a 99' new beetle GL, just sold it @ blue book value of 14,1000. That's only a 2,5000 drop over a 3 year period. now THAT is good!!!

i'm sure the mini will be roughly the same......... imo

If someone is buying a MINI in order to try to double or triple their value, they are probably wasting their time. As for the MINI being considered a limited production vehicle, it is my understanding that the US will be limited to 20,000 units per year for the next few years. IF its popularity grows then we may get more. This is how many BMW thinks it can sell in a country where most people have no idea the original Mini existed. The factory in the UK only makes 120-125k units per year and most of those stay in the UK and Europe where the original Mini has a huge following. Who cares if it is "Limited" anyway. Almost every PT Cruiser I see is a "limited" edition.

BTW - My MINI comes in at the end of the month.
