R50/53 Chrome inserts - yes or no?
I ordered the chrome inserts for my VR/W Cooper after the original order had been placed. When I told my hubby he said that he thought it would break up the front of the car and wouldn't look good. I think that with the chrome grille it will look awesome. Does anybody have any pics of a dark colored Cooper with chrome bumpers? I still have time to change my order back to the original.

It is all in the beholder's eye. I think the regular Cooper has enough chrome as is. In fact we got our '02 Cooper CVT without the chrome bumper inserts (They are body colored) and the car still looks great.
I however, much prefer the chrome front grill to the body colored one in the MCS. For this reason I am ordering the chrome grill option for my upcoming '04 MCS.

The darker colors look great with chrome inserts. I have Velvet Red and the chrome looks GREAT -- I got matching chrome license plate frames to complete them. And it's still not too much, it just looks elegant. Get the inserts!

I agree, spring for the chrome. I think it just ties the whole car together for a better appearance. I think it's especially essential for darker colors, however, I still got them even though I have PS. I like how they shine in the sun

I personally like the chrome. I was just talking to some fellow motorers last night and someone told me the chrome grill is availalbe for the S (its grill is a different size I guess). I plan on doing this down the road several thousand miles... after I get some more rock dings in my DS grill. Of course I'll go all out and do it along with chrome mirrors and boot lip.

For some colors, like VR, for instance, I think the chrome is essential. The car looks robbed without it. And it's probably one of the best bargains in the whole MINI package. Aftermarket chrome bits are crazy expensive.

I agree, although I think the chrome looks good with any color, it looks best against the darker color like VR and Black. But I saw a PW/PW with no chrome in downtown Seattle two weeks ago, and it looked sweet!

I like the chrome inserts especially on the darker or more classic colors. One thing which I have not been certain about is -- What are your options for this on the Cooper S? Can you still do it or is this Cooper only?
I learned last week that now you can order a MCS 3 slat (Not 4 slat front grille as in the MC) chrome front grille (Upper and lower part) for about $96 from your MINI parts counter.
The current MCS stock bumper doesn't allow for the MC chrome strips, unless, you change your stock MCS to MC bumpers as in the previous post (Doesn't look bad at all, but it gives the impression that your car is a MC with a MCS hood scoop).
Unfortunately, MINI is not yet offering the rear hatch chrome strip that goes above the license plate for the MCS.
I am also looking into the chrome exterior mirror covers that retail for $60.
